Michael Douglas: Edgar Wright Ant-Man departure 'very disappointing' Ant-Man star Michael Douglas has labelled the departure of director Edgar Wright "disappointing" in the first public comment from a leading cast member on the high profile superhero tale.

Douglas, who plays Hank Pym in the film, said he felt for the British director but expected him to bounce back. Wright quit Ant-Man following eight years of development last month due to creative differences with studio Marvel.

"I was, very disappointed," Douglas said in a video interview published on the Schmoes Know website. "I'm a big fan of his movies [and] it's a very disappointing situation."

He added: "It happened very late in the game [and] I don't think anybody's quite recovered," continuing, "My heart goes out to Edgar. He's been involved with the project for a long time, but he's talented enough that you'll be hearing a whole lot from him, and I'm sure with a little vengeance."

Wright's departure from a project he helped create has proven a rare shot of negative publicity for Marvel, the hugely successful Disney-owned studio behind blockbusters such as The Avengers and Iron Man 3. On Saturday the company revealed that Peyton Reed, whose last film as a director was the middling 2008 Jim Carrey comedy Yes Man, had been hired to replace Wright. Anchorman's Adam McKay will retool the screenplay, itself the source of disagreements between Wright and Marvel. It was reportedly an independent rewrite of the script, which the Hot Fuzz director had been working on with fellow Briton Joe Cornish for the best part of a decade, that led to Wright walking....
