From Kate Winslet to Donald Trump to Donald Duck: The stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

From Kate Winslet to Donald Trump to Donald Duck: The stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Hooray for Hollywood! Yes, three cheers for the town that gave us David Hasselhoff, Donald Trump and Judge Judy!

I take it from the silence that you aren’t cheering. And why should you? The Hoff, The Trump and The Judge aren’t exactly household Hollywood names.

What they do have, however, is a coveted star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, an 18-block stretch marking the achievements of the great, the good and the not-so-great in the entertainment industries.

In their defence, the three examples above have their names inscribed in the sidewalk because of their work in television, one of the five categories of Walk of Fame star.

Although almost half the stars have been given to those who worked in movies, TV is well represented, followed by music, radio and theatre.

There are 2,520 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the latest went to British actress Kate Winslet earlier this week. She described it as a ‘wonderful moment in my life that I know I will never forget’.

The system is administered by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which hands out about 20 stars a year.

A recipient has to be nominated by someone and they or their management must approve the nomination. To qualify, they must have at least five years’ experience in their category and a history of giving to charity. To receive the star, the performer must agree to appear at its unveiling....
