Pharrell to perform 'Happy' at Academy Awards ceremony Pharrell is set to perform at the Academy Awards ceremony next month.

He will play his Official UK Singles Chart Number One song 'Happy', which features on the soundtrack to animated movie Despicable Me 2. The track will compete with U2's 'Ordinary Love' from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Karen O's 'The Moon Song' from Her and 'Let It Go' from Disney film Frozen for the Best Original Song gong. The Oscars ceremony takes place on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Pharrell will also be appearing at the Brit Awards on February 19 at London's O2 Arena, performing alongside Arctic Monkeys, Katy Perry, Ellie Goulding, Bruno Mars, Bastille and Rudimental. Speaking about his appearance, he commented: "I always look forward to seeing the artists that come together on the Brits stage. I'm so humbled by this opportunity - performing at the awards will be surreal."

Franz Ferdinand singer Alex Kapranos recently apologised to Pharrell Williams after accusing him of "borrowing" a riff from him. The frontman tweeted the video to the producer's new track with Paloma Faith, 'Can't Rely On You', last month. Discussing the song, which has a riff running throughout not dissimilar to that of Franz Ferdinand's 2004 single 'Take Me Out', Kapranos wrote: "Hey @Pharrell - I love your tunes.
