Juna, The Comeback Star

“I don’t really have an issue with showing certain parts of my body. Growing up in Sweden, it’s natural over there.” Malin Akerman

Swedish model/actress/singer Malin Akerman began modeling at age 5 and landed her first break at age 17 when she won the Ford Supermodel of Canada search. She subsequently turned her direction to acting and was widely remembered while playing Juna Millken, a young and beautiful blonde model/musician who befriended Lisa Kudrow's character, on the HBO drama series "The Comeback" (2005). She also has appeared on the TV series “Doc” and “Entourage.”

On the big screen, the leggy blonde with sunny California good looks who was listed in FHM magazine's "100 Sexiest Women in the World 2006" could be seen in “The Skulls” (2000), “The Utopian Society” (2003) and “Kumar Go to White Castle” (2004), and will be seen in the upcoming films “The Invasion,” “The Brothers Solomon,” “The Heartbreak Kid,” and “27 Dresses.”

Akerman also tried her hand in music. She is the lead singer of a rock band named “Ozono,” who later changed their name to “The Petalstones.”

Sweden-Born, Canada-Raised

Childhood and Family:

In Stockholm, Sweden, Malin Maria Akerman was born on May 12, 1978. When she was 2 years old, Akerman’s family moved to Toronto, Canada, where she started a modeling career.

The Petalstones

At the tender age of 5, Malin Akerman began her professional career modeling and doing various television commercials. Her first break came at age 17 when she was crowned the prestigious Ford Supermodel of Canada title. She soon found herself strutting down European runways and became a successful model for several years.

The promising young model subsequently changed her direction to acting and opted to stay in Toronto. She started out with a guest role in an October 1997 episode of the syndicated sci-fi series “Earth: Final Conflict” and followed it up three years later with her first feature length film, director Rob Cohen's thriller starring Joshua Jackson, Paul Walker and Leslie Bibb, “The Skulls” (2000). In the film, based on some of the most wild conspiracy theories surrounding Yale University's Skull and Bones student society, Akerman played a tiny role as a coed in Caleb's (played by Paul Walker) apartment.

Following her big screen debut, Akerman appeared in the pilot episode of NBC's sci-fi series about the paranormal, "The Others," and was spotted as a guest in a February 2000 episode of the mystery/adventure series starring Tia Carrere and Christien Anholt, “Relic Hunter.” She also made her second film, “The Circle,” a thriller directed by Sidney J. Furie that stars Treat Williams.

Afterward, Akerman worked primarily on the small screen. She co-starred with Rachel McAdams in the unsold TV series pilot “Shotgun Love Dolls” (2001) and delivered guest performances on the Canadian show "Twice in a Lifetime," the former PAX network's series starring Billy Ray Cyrus, "Doc," TNT's TV series version of the comic book series "Witchblade," and A&E Network's Toronto-filmed stylized period drama series based on Rex Stout's classic series of detective stories, "A Nero Wolfe Mystery," starring distinguished character actor Maury Chaykin.

Returning to the big screen, Akerman was seen opposite Sam Doumit and Austin Nichols in John P.Aguirre's college movie, “The Utopian Society” (2003), in which she played the supporting role of Tanci. She then joined John Cho and Kal Penn in Danny Leiner's comedy movie, “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle” (2004), in which she played Liane, the hot wife of Freak Show (played by Christopher Meloni), a religious tow truck driver who repairs Harold's car.

TV audiences would best remember her as Juna Millken, a young and beautiful blonde model/musician who befriended Lisa Kudrow's character, on the HBO drama series "The Comeback." Premiering on June 5, 2005, the show was officially canceled in September 2005 after being on the air for thirteen weeks.

Following the demise of "The Comeback," Akerman guest starred in an episode of CBS/VH1's drama series starring Tom Cavanagh and based on the book by Kyle Smith, "Love Monkey," and in two episodes of HBO's smart dramatic comedy starring Adrian Grenier, "Entourage." She also played the lead role in Marcel Sarmiento's independent comedy, “Heavy Petting” (2006).

Akerman has completed her upcoming films, Oliver Hirschbiegel and James McTeigue's sci-fi film starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig in which Akerman will play Autumn, “The Invasion” (aka “The Visiting”), which is currently slated for an August 17, 2007, release, and Bob Odenkirk's comedy movie starring Will Arnett and Will Forte, “The Brothers Solomon,” which is expected to be released on September 7, 2007. She will also share the screen with Katherine Heigl, James Marsden and Edward Burns in Anne Fletcher's romantic comedy, “27 Dresses,” and support Ben Stiller in the Farrelly Brothers' romantic comedy “The Heartbreak Kid,” which will be released on October 5, 2007.

“It’s sort of a remake of 'The Heartbreak Kid.' I’m playing the fiancée, the one that (Ben Stiller) marries and turns into a wacko, so I got the really fun role.” Malin Akerman (on her role in “The Heartbreak Kid,” 2007)

First a model, then an actress, Akerman is also a musician. She is currently the lead singer of a rock band called “Ozono,” who later changed their name to “The Petalstones.” The band released their debut album, “Stung,” in 2005.
