Kaya Scodelario is a British actress and model. She is famous for her role as Effy Stonem in the E4 drama “Skins” (2007-2010; 2013), from which she received nominations from the Monte-Carlo TV Festival and TV Quick Awards, UK. In 2013, she shared the Ashland Independent Film Festival Best Acting Ensemble Award for her starring turn in the film “The Truth About Emanuel” (2013). She has appeared in other films like “Clash of the Titans” (2010), “Wuthering Heights” (2011), “Now Is Good” (2012) and “Twenty8k” (2012). Scodelario's fans should not miss her performances in the forthcoming films “The Maze Runner” (2014) and “Tiger House” (2014).   

Scodelario dated her “Skins” co-star Jack O'Connell for about a year until they split in June 2009. The two remain good friends. In the late 2009, she began dating fellow British actor Elliott Tittensor. She was ranked No. 13 on the UK edition of FHM list of “100 World's Sexiest Women 2010”.


Childhood and Family:

Kaya Scodelario was born Kaya Rose Humphrey on March 13, 1992, in Holloway, London, England, to a Brazilian mother and an English father. Her father left the family when she was one. She  then was raised by her mom in a council flat and became fluent in Portuguese. Kaya suffered bullying          at school partly due to her dyslexia, but later found acting as a salvation. By age 14, she had known that she wanted to become an actress.

The Truth About Emanuel


Kaya Scodelario decided to pursue an acting career after playing the lead in her school's production of “Oliver”. Her big break arrived in 2007 when she won the role of the impulsive Effy Stonem on the teen drama series “Skins”, which premiered on E4 on January 25, 2007. She left the show after the fourth series, but later returned to reprise her role in the seventh series. Scodelario's performance was hailed by critics, and she received two TV Quick nominations for Best Actress (2009, 2010) and two Monte-Carlo TV Festival's Golden Nymph nominations for Outstanding Actress - Drama Series (2008, 2010).      

In 2009, Scodelario made her big screen debut as Eve in the British science fiction/drama film “Moon”, directed by Duncan Jones and starring Sam Rockwell, Kevin Spacey, Dominique McElligott and Robin Chalk. “Moon” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 23, 2009. She went on to play a teenager named Tasha in the action movie “Shank” (2010), opposite Adam Deacon, Bashy and Jennie Jacques. The film, by first time filmmaker Mo Ali, received negative reviews from critics. She also appeared as Peshet in the remake of “Clash of the Titans” (2010), which was directed by Louis Leterrier and starred Sam Worthington, and starred as Catherine Earnshaw in Andrea Arnold's adaptation of “Wuthering Heights” (2011).

In 2012, Scodelario portrayed Karen, a pupil and lover to Billie Piper's character, on two episodes of “True Love”, a five-episode semi-improvised BBC television drama. She was cast as Tessa's best friend, Zoey, on the teen drama film “Now Is Good” (2012), an adaptation of the 2007 novel “Before I Die” by Jenny Downham, scripted and directed by Ol Parker. The film starred Dakota Fanning, Jeremy Irvine and Paddy Considine. She also appeared with Parminder Nagra, Jonas Armstrong, and Stephen Dillane in the thriller film “Twenty8k” (2012).

Scodelario co-starred with Jessica Biel, Alfred Molina and Frances O'Connor on the American independent film “The Truth About Emanuel”, written, directed and produced by Francesca Gregorini. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 18, 2013 and earned the actress and her co-stars  an Ashland Independent Film Festival for Best Acting Ensemble: Feature. She went on to star as Anna Salter on the television drama series “Southcliffe”, which aired on the Channel 4 from August 4, 2013  to August 18, 2013.       

Scodelario will portray Teresa in the upcoming science fiction/drama film “The Maze Runner”, adapted from a 2009 book of same name by James Dashner. The film will also star  Dylan O'Brien, Will Poulter, Aml Ameen and Thomas Sangster and is set to be released in the United States on February 14, 2014. She will star as Kelly on the upcoming British thriller film “Tiger House”, opposite Dougray Scott and Tom Cullen.     

Scodelario has also done several modeling. She previously was signed with  Models 1 and has appeared in a number of publications, including Teen Vogue, Elle UK, Vogue, Nylon, Instyle UK, Dazed & Confused, and i-D. Additionally, she has appeared in music videos for “Stay Too Long”, “She Said”, “Love Goes Down” and “Writing's on the Wall” all by British musician Plan B, “Old Isleworth” by The Ruskins and “Candy” by Robbie Williams.
