Gabriel Soto forgot his ambition to study at Harvard and instead decided to focus his energy on modeling. He modeled for noted brands such as Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, Hugo Boss, and Versace” and won the national male pageant El Modelo Mexico. As a result, he represented his country in the 1996 Mister World pageant, in which he became the first runner-up. His success in the pageant circuit put him on the radar of power house Televisa. Before long, he made his acting debut in Televisa's “Mi querida Isabel” (1997), which starred Karla Álvarez.

After the series left the airwaves, Soto joined the Mexican teen pop group Kairo when he filled the position left by founding member Eduardo Verástegui, who decided to pursue acting full time. The two other original members, Jean Paul Forat Morales and Francisco Carlos Zorrilla González, were then replaced by former Tierra Cero group member Paulo César Quevedo de la Vega and Roberto Assad Martínez, respectively. The completely new Kairo released “Pasiones” in 1998 and enjoyed success in Latin America.

In 1999, Soto resumed his acting career by taking the role of Vladimir in “Alma rebelde.” He also modeled for big companies like Air Toner products, the Kazzan And Terra catalog, and Trident Gum, to name a few, and graced the covers of popular publications such as “Men's Health” and “People En Español.” He also became the new face of Definite and NeoSkin products.
