The Secret Life of the American Teenager


American actress of Honduran and Mexican descent Francia Raisa, sometimes also credited as Francia Almendárez, first came to fame for playing Cheerleader Leti on “Bring It On: All or Nothing” (2006). She gained bigger attention for her portrayal of Adrian Lee on the ABC Family award-winning TV series “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” (2008-2013), from which she received a Teen Choice nomination, an Imagen nomination and two ALMA nominations.

Childhood and Family:

Francia Raisa Almendárez was born on July 26, 1988 in Los Angeles, California. Her father, Maximo Renan Almendarez Coello, also known as El Cucuy, is one of the most recognized radio personalities and No. 1 Latino DJs in Los Angeles. Her mother's name is Virginia Almendarez. She has tow siblings: Irlanda Almendarez and Italia Almendarez.  Francia started taking dance lessons to learn all styles from tap to jazz, acrobatics, hip- hop and Polynesian when she was 5. She also trained in ice-skating and karate. She added modeling and acting to her schedule in high school. Francia attended Bishop Alemany High School.

Bring It On: All or Nothing


Francia Raisa started to appear in print ads and in commercials in her junior year of high school. In 2005, she guest starred in the sitcom “Over There.” Just a month into her senior year, she booked one of her first lead roles, starring opposite Hayden Panettiere in “Bring It On: All or Nothing,” the third installment in the “Bring it On” series and was released direct-to-DVD on August 8, 2006. She played a tough Latina cheerleader named Leti.   

Raisa then played Isabel in the Nickelodeon movie “Shredderman Rules” (2007), opposite Devon Werkheiser, Dan Roebuck, Andrew Caldwell, Tim Meadows, Dave Coulier and Mindy Sterling,  Alejandra 'Alex' Delgado in the ABC Family cable channel film “The Cutting Edge 3: Chasing the Dream,” which aired on March 16, 2008, Marly in “Fired Up!” (2009) and Maria in “Bulletface” (2010). She reprised her role as Alexandra 'Alex' Delgado on the sequel “The Cutting Edge: Fire & Ice” (2010).

Raisa starred as Adrian Lee, a  majorette with a reputation for being promiscuous because she enjoys casual sex, in the teen drama series “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” opposite Shailene Woodley and Kenny Baumann. For her work on the series, she was nominated for two ALMA Awards for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series in 2009 and 2011, an Imagen Award for Best Young Actress – Television in 2012 and a Teen Choice Award for Choice TV: Female Scene Stealer in 2012. The show ran for five seasons from July 1, 2008 to June 3, 2013.

Raisa guest starred in “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” (2012), “Massholes” (2013) and “The Mindy Project” (2013). She played Grace in the TV film “Company Town” (2013), Katharine in the film “Chastity Bites” (2013), Tory Bell in the made for TV film “Christmas Bounty” (2013) and Penny in “A Snow Globe Christmas” (2013).    

In 2014, Raisa appeared in Shiri Appleby, Constance Zimmer and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman in the television series “Un-Real.” She starred with Ryan Guzman and Daphne Zuniga in the drama film “Beyond Paradise” (2014).

Raisa is set to portray Officer Ramirez on the upcoming film “The Guilty Innocent”(2014), a drama directed by Jamie Marshall and written by Matthew L. Schaffer.
