English singer, songwriter and television personality Cheryl Cole rose to fame as part of the girl group Girls Aloud, which was formed in 2002 as a result from ITV's “Popstars: The Rivals.” The group  had five platinum studio albums and achieved a string of twenty consecutive top ten singles in the UK, including four number ones. As a solo artist, Cheryl has released three studio albums. They produced the No. 1 hit singles “Fight for This Love” (2009), “Promise This” and “Call My Name” (2012).

Cheryl also had gained popularity as the judge of the British version of “The X Factor” from 2008 to 2010. She left the show to judge the American version, but was soon fired.

Cheryl has become a recognized and photographed style icon. She has been appeared on the cover of British Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar, and has become a new face of L'Oréal cosmetic. She was ranked No. 2 on the FHM list of “100 Sexiest Women 2005” and No. 7 on their “100 Sexiest 2008” list. She was selected as FHM's “Sexiest Women in the World supplement 2009.

Member of Girls Aloud

Cheryl Cole got her first big break in the entertainment business when she won an audition for the reality television show “Popstars The Rivals” in 2002. She then became a member of the girl group, Girls Aloud, along with Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, and Kimberley Walsh. The group's first single, “Sound of the Underground,” was released on December 16, 2002. It reached No. 1 in the UK chart and was eventually certified platinum by the BPI. A debut studio album of the same name was launched by Polydor Records on May 26, 2003 to mostly favorable reviews from contemporary music critics. It reached No. 2 on the UK Album chart and went platinum by selling over  368,000 in the UK.

Cheryl continued to enjoy success with her music group. Their follow up albums: “What Will the Neighbours Say?” (2004), “Chemistry” (2005), “Tangled Up” (2007) and “Out of Control” (2008), all achieved platinum certification in the UK, with the latter also marking the group's first No. 1 album. Girls Aloud also produced three additional No. 1 hit singles with “I'll Stand by You” (2004), “Walk This Way” (2007) and “The Promise” (2009) as well as a number of top 10 hits between 2003 and 2012. The lead single “Promise This” became her second No. 1 hit in the UK.

Also in 2010, Cheryl made her return to television as a judge on the seventh series of “The X Factor,” opposite Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue. She mentored the girls category once again, but failed to become the victorious judge for a third time after a contestant in her category, Rebecca Ferguson, lost out to Minogue's  Matt Cardle.

In May 2011, Cheryl officially joined Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, and Paula Abdul on the judging panel for the American version of “The X Factor.” After only three weeks as a judge and concluding the auditions in Los Angeles, she, however, left the show and was replaced by Nicole Scherzinger for the rest of season 1. The same year, Cheryl did not return to the UK version and was replaced by Tulisa Contostavlos on the judging panel.

Cheryl's third studio album, “A Million Lights,” was released on June 18, 2012. The album debuted at No. 2 on the UK Albums chart and only received gold certification in the UK. The first single “Call My Name” marked her third No. 1 single on the UK Singles chart. The follow up “Under the Sun” failed to achieve the top 10 on the UK Singles chart and only reached No. 13. She supported the album by embarking on her first solo concert tour, the A Million Lights Tour, which lasted from October 3 to 17, 2012.

Later that same year in November, Cheryl reunited with Girls Aloud and released their new single, “ Something New,” on November 18, 2012. In September 2013, it was reported that Cheryl may join forces with Girls Aloud member Nicola Roberts on her upcoming solo album, which is scheduled to be released in 2014.
