I genuinely enjoyed watching this movie - great costumes and beautifully filmed - a real eye feast. I supect however many people are seduced, along with Mina, by Oldman's incredibly sexy portrayal of Dracula - and are equally irritated by the bad accent and ordinary acting of Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder in their respective roles (they've both done much better). Don't watch it expecting a faithful interpretation of the novel, or if you're wanting a truly scary experience. It's a bit of fun - even camp in places, but it's pacey, sexy and Oldman's acting (along with Hopkins) is, as always, worth the movie experience alone!

I saw this movie on the shelf at my local video store and said to myself "Bram Stoker's Dracula?Must mean its a faithful adaptation of the classic book. I have read some of the book and well am going to read it in its entirety soon but i know what happens in it and well have to say im disappointed in this movie. I expected a smarter version, one that truly show Bram Stoker's vision on how he viewed Dracula. Even from the opening credits, I had the eeriest feeling that i was going to be let down and well was not disappointed. My biggest pet peeve with this movie is the overplayed eroticism and nudity. I mean is a movie that far gone that you need Lucy and Mina to make out in the rain? I mean for a lot of guys that will draw them to the movie, but what about us chicks. We don't exactly get a lot of eye candy except ,in my case, Gary Oldman. Also why did they make Lucy a [prostitute]? Im every other remake of Dracula, Lucy is a bit nubile and naive but a respectable character. In this movie i was glad she died and that's not the reaction i should have about her. Another this is why did the women's breasts keep falling out of their dresses? Doesn't make much sense. Another peeve of mine is the phony accent by Keanu Reeves. Gee Golly gosh do you honestly believe that the guy that played Ted in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure could pull off an actual authentic accent. My don't directors have better sense NOT to put Keanu Reeves in a extremely serious role. I'll move on now. Another peeve is well why did they kill a baby in the begining. i mean okay i stuck with the movie until Harker(Reeves) got to the castle. Then i started to lose faith. Gary Oldman could not pull off the look of Dracula at that point in the movie. The Harker goes wandering around the castle and finds himself in the middle of a bed and these three women, who im guessing are Dracula's brides, starting dry humping and moaning all over Harker. Then Dracula shows up and gives them a baby and in turn they tear it to pieces. Thats when i decided okay cant get any worse. Well i was wrong. Thats all im going to say on the subject cause im pissing myself off thinking about. Besides i think this review is getting to long anyway. If you don't believe me go rent it yourself. I just won't say i told you so.

Gary Oldman is so deliciously sexy in this movie it is hard to turn away from it. Anthony Hopkins and Winona Ryder are also excellent in this movie. I agree with all other reviewers, the weakness in this movie is the choice of Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker. Terrible Choice! This movie is visually stunning and keeps you spellbound from start to finish. Tom Waits is amazing as the deranged Renfield. One of the best Dracula movies I have ever seen. Sadie Frost performance is superb as she goes from sweet ingenue to Dracula's sexy concubine.

Gary Oldman as Dracula makes as much sense as Bela Lugosi as Lenny Bruce. The redeeming bit of this film fiasco is Anthony Hopkins as a bizarre and interesting Van Helsing. This isn't Bram Stoker, it's Francis Ford Copulating with the script, and patting himself on the back in the process. (The cinematograph scene is useless). You'll see some scene sendups of The Exorcist, Dracula as Phyllis Diller (at least that's what his makeup looked like to me with that stupid harido in the castle), and Winny Ryder when she's not busy boosting in a store or something else to get herself busted. Reeves as Jonathan Harker??? You must be kidding. The only thing worse than his Brit accent in this one was his Southern accent in Devil's Advocate. Skip this one fans of the undead--it's staked out.
