 | I bought this DVD sight unseen, from the $5.99 bin on Val Kilmer's reputation as an intelligent and entertaining actor. After viewing it with my wife we both agree with the general feeling of the reviews listed here. It SHOULD be a better movie. It SHOULD be a captivating story. It HAS a terrific cast. So, why is it so boring to watch?
I respect Val Kilmer's acting and his integrity as an actor. Most critics seem to agree that he is an "intelligent" actor. So then why does he get such crappy roles? Why is he so miscast in so many things? Who is it that is trying to ruin his career for him or make him the scapegoat when a film doesn't gross billions. Would someone write a script specifically with the talents of Val Kilmer in mind... please?
Like many of us, I was introduced to his acting in the low budget, now cult icon film Real Genus where as the young, smart mouthed, fast talking College senior he literally stole the show from Gabe Jarrett who got top billing. I'm sorry to say that overall it has been his best (high profile) vehicle to date. Though I personally thought it unfair, he was universally panned as Batman. It was the script and the director that needed the "enema" in that one.
If I were him, I'd be looking for a new agent.

| Rating | | | Date | April 27, 2005 | | Summary | Decent enough romance, but drags on | Content
 | Love at first sight is a feel good romance that makes you wonder what sparks true love .But on the whole, I thought it dragged on just a little too long, cutting it down to about an hour and half would have been just as emotional and dramatic as the two and half hour version.
Not bad if your looking for a decent chick flick with some intelligence. Otherwise..... |
| Rating | | | Date | November 08, 2004 | | Summary | A memorable portrait ! | Content
 | Based on a real story , this film is real artistic triumph . I do not agree with many people and even critics who state this picture is a soap opera . It contains many dramatic issues that invite you to think .
How can we adapt to the real world inmersed in a dark world where the blindness imposses us its own roles ?
This medical repport works out as a perpetuum mobile through the film , it is supported by a good script and a special chemistry generated for Mira Sorvino (I love her) and Val Kilmer in a very credible role as the blind man .
The brief process in which he recovers the sight sense is a life lesson .
Irwin Winkler caught the insights , and the inner conflicts of any man in a situation like this .
Excellent photography and edition . |
