Actor Tyler Christopher portrays Nikolas Cassadine on the long running soap opera “General Hospital” (1996 to 1999 and 2003 to present). He collected several Daytime Emmy nominations for his work on the show and a 1997 Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Male Newcomer. He has also guest starred in several primetime shows, including “Charmed,” “JAG” and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and won a First Americans in the Arts (FAITA) Award for his guest appearance on NBC's “The Pretender” (2000). On the big screen, Christopher nabbed a FAITA Award for his performance on “Catfish in Black Bean Sauce” (1999) and a Portland Festival of World Cinema Award for “Out of the Black” (2001).

Christopher lives in Los Angeles with his wife Brienne Pedigo and son Greysun (born 2009). He was previously married to “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria from 2002 to 2004, was once romantically involved with “General Hospital” costar Natalia Livingston, and engaged to actress Vanessa Marcil. Christopher speaks fluent Spanish, Greek, Russian and English.

Childhood and Family:

Tyler Christopher was born Tyler Christopher Baker on November 11, 1972, in Joliet, Illinois, to a Seneca father (Jim Baker) and a Choctaw mother (Jimi-Ann). The youngest of four, he grew up in Delaware, Ohio, with his two sisters and one brother. Tyler spent two years at Ohio Wesleyan University before moving to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.

On January 20, 2002, Tyler married actress Eva Longoria (born March 15, 1975) but they divorced on January 19, 2004. In November 2006, Tyler and his girlfriend, auto racing pit reporter Brienne Pedigo, announced their engagement. The couple eventually married on September 27, 2008. Their first child, son Greysun James Christopher, was born on October 3, 2009. Tyler is the cousin of actors Derk and Drew Cheetwood.

Career:

In 1996, Tyler Christopher made his television debut as Nikolas Cassadine on the long running ABC drama “General Hospital.” He won a Soap Opera Digest for Outstanding Male Newcomer in 1997 and was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series in 1998 before leaving the series in 1999 to pursue other projects. While working on the series Christopher, then billed as Tyler Baker, made his feature film debut on the drama “Common Bonds” (1997). It was followed by a supporting role as Michael on “Catfish in Black Bean Sauce” (1999), a film directed, written by and starring Chi Muoi Lo. The latter role brought him a 2001 FAITA Award in the category of Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (Film).

In 2000, Christopher starred in the Jeff Howard directed comedy “Face the Music” opposite Elena Lyons and Patrick Malone. The same year, he also guest starred in episodes of the TV series “Family Law,” “Charmed,” “Angel” and “The Pretender.” His performance in “The Pretender” earned a FAITA Award, this time for Outstanding Guest Performance by an Actor in a TV Drama Series.

The next year, Christopher appeared in an episode of “Days of Our Lives” and guest starred in “Felicity” and “Special Unit 2.” He then starred in the CBS television movie “Sam's Circus” (2001) and won the Best Actor Award at the 2001 Portland Festival of World Cinema for his portrayal of Cole Malby in the film “Out of the Black” (2001), which was directed and co-written by Karl Kozak.

2002 saw the actor guest star in “The Division” (as Seaman Stan Bellows), “The Twilight Zone” (as Dr. Jay Ferguson), “JAG” (as Joe Akers), “Boomtown” (as Holden McKay) and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” (as Billy Rattison). He also portrayed Joe Morelli on the UPN television film “One for the Money” and starred as Rick in the action film “Frogmen Operation Stormbringer,” alongside Bentley Mitchum and John Simon Jones.

In 2003, Christopher returned to his role of Nikolas Cassadine on “General Hospital.” Between 2004 and 2005, Christopher also played Connor Bishop, the Nikolas Cassadine look-alike, on the show. Christopher received a 2004 Image nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series, a 2005 Soap Opera Digest nomination for Favorite New Couple, which he shared with Natalia Livingston, and Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (2005 and 2006) and the Special Fan Award for Irresistible Combination (2005) for his efforts.

Apart from his tenure on “General Hospital,” Christopher has been busy working on other projects. He portrayed Officer Fisher in an episode of “Crossing Jordan” (2003), Jacob Wheeler Jr. on three episodes of the TV miniseries “Into the West” (2005) and Grant Wilson in the pilot of “Secrets of a Small Town” (2006). He resumed his film career in 2009 by playing Vlad on “Raven,” a horror movie directed by Gregori J. Martin that starred Meadow Williams, Roland Kickinger and Steven Bauer.

Recently, in 2011, Christopher has completed filming the dramatic film “Shouting Secrets,” opposite Chaske Spencer and Q'orianka Kilcher. He will also portray Detective Matthews on the pilot of the series “The Lying Game” (2011), opposite Andy Buckley and Alexandra Chando.
