 | Mediocre plot. Questionable situations. Tom Cruise as the main character (ick). Demi Moore is horrible (big shock). Nicholson was okay, but, then again, he ALWAYS gets the agressive and/or crazy guy. If he actually played different roles, I would not be so critical and consider his performance outstanding, but I'm starting to think that's what he's like in real life. Didn't like how it turned out, because Nicholson's character was RIGHT about people dying.
Excellent performances? My butt. Great screenplay? Right. Only watch this movie if you think Tom Cruise or Demi Moore is hot, if you really REALLY like Nicholson, or have a thing for military stories that have very little truth to them and could never happen in real life. I was forced into watching this for a psych class, and I regret watching it.
Can I handle the truth? Of course. |

 | A Few Good Men is an absorbing, engrossing, suspenseful story of the defense of two marines accused of murder, and one of the all time best courtroom dramas, right up there with Twelve Angry Men, Anatormy of A Murder, and The Andersonville Trial. Tom Cruise is Lt. Kaffey, the Navy lawyer appointed to defend two marines who clearly attacked and caused the death of a third where they were stationed at Guantanimo Bay. An attorney for Internal Affairs (Demi Moore) suspects something is amiss, however, since Kaffey never tried a case in court before. He's earned a reputation for plea bargaining and settling out of court. The implication is that some officers (Jack Nicholson, Kiefer Sutherland) above the accused are being protected. So it looks like an uphill battle for the defense team, which includes Kevin Pollack (House Arrest, Hostage) along with Cruise and Moore, who got herself appointed to defend one of the two marines. The great cast also includes Kevin Bacon (Whitewater Summer, Stir Of Echos) as the prosecutor, and the late J.T. Walsh (The Client, Sling Blade), as an officer from Guantanimo who provides the one big break in the case, telling Cruise that Nicholson lied about ordering the victims transfer shortly before the murder. However, Walsh can't testify for reasons I don't want to give away if you haven't seen it, so Cruise has to resort to Perry Mason tactics which does result in a classic Perry Mason ending - even if you haven't seen the film yet, you've probably heard something of Nicholson's final speech:- " . . . you can't handle the truth . . . " etc. I've watched A Few Good Men every 4 or 5 years, and even though personally I don't particularly like most of the stars (except Pollack and Walsh), they all do such fine acting I'm thoroughly enthralled each time. |

 | Out of all the great courtroom dramas, such as "Witness For The Prosecution", "12 Angry Men", "Judgement At Nuremberg" and "And Justice For All", "A Few Good Men" ranks head and shoulders above them with its outstanding cast, brilliantly written script and excellent directing by Rob Reiner.
Thickheaded Navy lawyer Daniel Kaffee (Tom Cruise in what may well be his best role ever) is assigned to the toughest case of his life: get two Marines off a murder charge for killing a fellow officer. Assigned with intelligent, tough as nails litigator Joanne Galloway (Demi Moore), who is intent on winning the case as well as whipping Kaffee into a serious lawyer, Kaffee must pry through a web of deceit that involves a shady colonel (Jack Nicholson), a botched Code Red operation, and a mysterious officer who may hold all the answers (the late, great, world renowned character actor J.T. Walsh). As the case progresses (resulting in one of the greatest lines in movie history), Kaffee and Galloway weed through the twists and turns, resulting in an unforgettable climax.
This is basically as good an overview I can give for this film. This film is brilliantly made. Everything about it is perfectly done. And the cast is an outstanding accumulation of acting talent. In addition to Cruise, Moore and Nicholson, the cast also features Kevin Bacon, Kevin Pollak, Christopher Guesy, Keifer Sutherland, Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Noah Wyle. Of course, Nicholson tops them all with his performance. The funny thing is, despite his lead credit (and a supporting actor Oscar nod), his role is essentially a cameo. If anything, only Cruise and more would get starring credit, and the supporting cast would be credited on the back cover as:
Kevin Pollak Kevin Bacon J.T. Walsh With Kiefer Sutherland And Jack Nicholson as Jessup.
However, this is Nicholson we're talking about, so that would be unlikely. Nicholson, as well aknow, delivers the line : "you can't handle the truth!". That scene alone warrants him star billing.
This is without a doubt an essential film for your dvd collection. Buy it as soon as possible. |

 | In 1992, Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, Jack Nicholson, Kevin Bacon, Kiefer Sutherland, & Cuba Gooding, Jr. had paired up to star in the film, A FEW GOOD MEN.
A military soldier, after wanting a transfer, is found dead. Two military lawyers: LT. DANIEL KAFFEE(played by Tom Cruise) and LT. COMMANDER JoANNE GALLOWAY (played by Demi Moore) are paired together to find out who killed the soldier and to find out why the murder was planned and done. Against Kaffee and Galloway is CAPTAIN JACK ROSS (played by Kevin Bacon). COLONEL NATHAN R. JESSUP (played by Jack Nicholson) and LT. JONATHAN R. KENDRICK (played by Kiefer Sutherland) run the military grounds on which the soldier was killed and it seems that the two know a little too much about the murder of the soldier. Is it possible that Colonel Jessup is the man guilty of the soldier's death? Is it possible that Lt. Kendrick is an accomplice to the murder? Do you all want the truth? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!!
I was not too impressed with this film. It was really hard to follow at first. I took me awhile to really get the gidst of what was happening. I think it was possible that I couldn't handle the truth (LoL). I basically watched the film because of Kiefer Sutherland, which was a small supporting role. But the film wasn't that bad. Now, let's see if you all are brave enough to handle the truth! |
