SummaryDo yourself a favor... Stay outta Big Trouble!
Content
Newspaper columnist Dave Barry has seen a great deal of deserved success. He understands who he is as a property and exploits it appropriately. A couple years back he wrote his first novel, the comic BIG TROUBLE. It is a fun read with comic mishaps, characterizations and resolutions worthy of a big screen comedy. In fact, the book reads like a film. So, a movie was almost inevitable.

Now it hits screens after an appropriate delay due to the 9/11 attacks (the comedy revolves around terrorists, airport security and plane hijackings). On board to direct is Barry Sonnenfeld, the cinematographer turned director who brought us the similarly flavored GET SHORTY. And here is where the film stumbles. The comic styling of Dave Barry and Barry Sonnenfeld are slightly conflicted leaving the film off-balance. Barry is filled with observational humor that is easily attainable while Sonnenfeld works in the subtleties. So the film falls somewhere in between, not the best effort from either party. It is like RUTHLESS PEOPLE without the solid execution.

The cast is big money but, with the exception of Janeane Garofalo and Patrick Warburton, is mostly wasted. The quick relationship between Tim Allen and Renee Russo is neither believable nor interesting. The city of Miami plays a big part in the story (Dave Barry writes for the MIAMI HERALD) and so locals should find some interest there. Otherwise, this film falls short. It leaves you with a couple laughs but an involved storyline that is inoperable.

SummaryDave Barry... so it's gotta be good.
Content
I discovered Dave Barry in a Reader's Digest article titled "The Martian Death Flu". That short story inaugurated a fascination for all things Barry and "Big Trouble" is a faithful depiction of the mind of this Miami madman. This Pulitzer-prize winning columnist meets the director of "Men In Black" and TV's The Tick.

Sonnenfeld's touch and a good soundtrack contribute to this madcap misadventure where a hallucinogenic toad, a sub-compact car, and a 'garbage disposal' bomb make for an outrageous race to save a corporate embezzler's step-daughter.

An immaculate cast certifies the action will be riveting and breath-taking viewing after viewing. Thanks, Dave!

SummaryBetter, yes, BETTER, than Get Shorty
Content
When I saw Get Shorty a few years ago, I thought to myself that it was funny, but not THAT funny. And then I saw another film by the same guy who made Get Shorty, and I was in hysterics. Big Trouble truly tops Get Shorty in every way possible.

The plot is far to complicated to explain in a reasonable amount of time, but is sums up to be about a bunch of people, with completely different lifestyles, who somehow get thrown together because of a big bomb that looks like a garbedge disposal. From there, the plot goes nuts, but that's okay, because it's what makes Big Trouble such a funny and strangely smart movie. I was laughing the entire way through. This is really a movie you don't want to miss.

Summarypleasant surprise
Content
Since this movie came and went pretty quickly when it was released, I wasn't expecting much when I rented it, but it was really funny. Tim Allen plays an ex-newspaper writer who is divorced and hates his new job and has a son who has no respect for him. He meets Rene Russo when his son tries to "kill" her daughter with a squirt gun in a game of 'assassin'. Russo's husband has been targeted by hitman Dennis Farina for stealing money from his bosses. Throw in some Russian mobsters, 2 moron crooks, 2 cops, a hippy, the FBI and a stolen nuclear bomb and you have chaos beautifully directed. This movie has a great cast that also includes Andy Richter, Janene Garafalo, Stanley Tucci, Tom Sizemore, Johnny Knoxville and others. There's a lot going on and a lot of people to keep track of but I thought they blended together perfectly and there were no slow moments. Best of all for a comedy, it was actually funny.

SummaryI'm still laughing the next morning after....
Content
This is honestly and absolutely one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time. I caught this move by mistake and it's now one of my favorites. Hilarious, all-star cast, no star eclipses each other, and the plot centers around a nuclear bomb stolen by 2 fellers, and the corresponding antics surrounding them in Miami. Heavy D, Omar Epps, Garafalo, Tim Allen, Rene Russo, the list goes on. If you see this and don't like it, then you don't have a sense of humor. The Discovery Channel.
