Childhood and Family:

Helen Elizabeth Daly, who would later be popular as Tess Daly, was born on April 27, 1971, in Stockport, Cheshire, England, to parents Vivian Daly, who died of emphysema, and Sylvia Daly. She has a younger sister named Karen Daly. She was educated at Hayfield Primary School and New Mills Secondary School.

On September 12, 2003, Tess was married to Vernon Kay at St Mary's Catholic Church in Horwich, near Bolton. She gave birth to her first child, a daughter Phoebe Elizabeth Daly, on October 17, 2004. Her second child, a daughter Amber Isabella Daly, was born on May 30, 2009. Tess and her family currently live in Fulmer, Buckinghamshire.

Just the Two of Us

Tess Daly began her first career as a model after she was spotted outside a McDonald's restaurant in Manchester while she was waiting for her sister. In less than two months, a then 18 year old Daly flew to Tokyo to do her first professional modeling gig. She continued to receive jobs in Asia and also in Europe before deciding to leave London for Paris to further her modeling career. Daly  returned to London five years later but only stayed there for six months before moving again, this time to New York. She appeared in the Duran Duran video music “Serious” and “Violence of Summer (Love's Taking Over)”, both from the band's 1990 album, “Liberty.” She also appeared in the video for the song “Sweet Harmony” (1993), by The Beloved. Daly later also appeared in TV commercial for M&M's (2002) and became the face of lingerie company La Senza in the UK as well as the “nice 'n easy ambassador” for Clairol (UK) home hair color products (2010).

During her five year stay in New York, Daly had the opportunities to interview celebrities during red carpet events. In 2000, she sent a show reel to the producers of Channel 4's “The Big Breakfast,” who subsequently hired her to host the “Find Me a Model” competition. She has since presented many shows, including “Get Your Kit Off,” “Singled Out,” “Smash Hits TV,” “SMTV Live,” “Back To Reality” (2004), and the first series of “Make Me a Supermodel” (with Dave Berry).

However, Daly did not receive a big break until she was recruited to co-host the BBC celebrity talent show “Strictly Come Dancing,” with Bruce Forsyth. The two have done their duty in all 10 series  since 2004.  For some of the second series, Natasha Kaplinsky stood in temporarily for Daly while she took maternity leave.

In 2006, Daly joined forces with her husband Vernon Kay to host the first series of the British television reality singing contest “Just the Two of Us” (BBC One). The couple reprised their duty for the second series, which ended on January 7, 2007.

Daly also presented “This Time Tomorrow,” the National Lottery show broadcast on BBC1. “Royal Variety Performance 2008” and “Children in Need” with Terry Wogan and Fearne Cotton. She won the special version of “Strictly Come Dancing” against Wogan, where she was partnered with Anton du Beke.

Daly published her first novel “The Camera Never Lies,” a tale of love behind the scenes, in 2011. Her second book, “It's Up to You New York,” followed in 2013.
