Career:

At first, Taissa Farmiga had no interest to become an actress. She was persuaded to make her debut in sister Vera Farmiga's directorial debut, “Higher Ground” (2011),  which is loosely based on the memoir “This Dark World” by author Carolyn S. Briggs. Farmiga played the younger version of Vera's character, Corinne Walker, and received acclaim for her performance at the Sundance Film Festival. Following this, she decided to pursue acting as a career.

Later, in May 2001, Farmiga won the role of the strong-willed, feisty Violet Harmon on the FX television series “American Horror Story: Murder House,” opposite Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott, Evan Peters, Denis O'Hare, Jessica Lange, Kate Mara, and Frances Conroy. The show aired from October 5, 2011 to December 21, 2011 and received rave reviews from critics.

“The horror aspect, the scary parts, are easy for me. I mean I can get into that pretty easy, because I get scared. You have to invest yourself in these characters.” Taissa Farmiga (on playing Violet in “American Horror Story”)

Farmiga was cast as Sam Moore in the satirical black comedy/crime film “The Bling Ring,” opposite Emma Watson. Directed, written and produced by Sofia Coppola, the film opened the Un Certain Regard section of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and released in the United States on June 21, 2013. It has received positive reviews from critics.

Farmiga reunited with sister Vera for the romance movie “At Middleton,” which was directed and co-written by Adam Rodgers. It premiered at the Seattle International Film Festival on May 17, 2013. She also starred with Mark Strong and Brian Cox on the Spanish-American psychological thriller film “Mindscape,” which marked the debut feature of Spanish filmmaker Jorge Dorado. The film got critical acclaim from audiences during its world premiere at the 46th Sitges Film Festival on October 13, 2013, and was released theatrically in Spain on January 24, 2014 by Warner Bros..

Farmiga returned to the FX horror anthology series for its third season, “American Horror Story: Coven,” which premiered on October 9, 2013 and concluded on January 29, 2014. She portrayed Zoe Benson, a young girl who discovers that she is a witch and is then forced to go to a special school called “Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies” in New Orleans after her finding of hidden magical powers.

In 2014, Farmiga starred as the love interest Sarah on Trevor White's crime/drama film, “Jamesy Boy.” Her co-stars in the film include Mary-Louise Parker and James Woods.
