SummaryCar Chase Mania
Content
The movie "Dirty Mary Crazy Mary" was the beginning of all car chase movies. It spawned the Smokey and the Bandit series, the Cannonball Run Series and all the rest. It is, by no means a cinematic masterpiece, but if you look at it for what it is-a low-budget drive in movie, it is among the best. Peter Fonda is not quite as wooden as usual, and Susan George is just the right mix of dumb and slutty blonde that makes this movie so enjoyable. I don't understand why Roddy McDowell(as the grocery store manager whose store gets robbed) was uncredited. Perhaps he thought the movie was so bad that he didn't want to be a part of it. But to those who have seen the movie many times, he is an integral part of the beginning, just as Vic Morrow is later on. Seems ironic that he wanted the helicopter to chase Larry, and he died jus a few years later in a helicopter accident on the set of The Twilight Zone Movie.
All in all, this is a very enjoyable movie and if you like car chase movies, this one is a must see, if just for that really cool Dodger Charger that they perish in.

Finally on DVD. With regard to the cropping, is it possible that the original cut was 1.85:1 and when they released it on TV they actually "opened it up" to fit the television, so you could actually see more of the film than was intended (a good example is in "Coma" when you can see the microphones overhead in the TV version) and now it is back into its original state? They do this with a lot of films. Just wondering.

SummaryClassic 70's car chase / road movie

Finally a beautiful print!! I saw this as a teenager back in 1978 at a Drive-In. It's brings back memories for I had a very similar denim outfit like Mary's when I was 19 !! I also had at one time in my youth a 1968 4 door blue Chevy Impala with the 396 option. Real American steel baby !!!

I did notice a couple scenes missing when they were at the flea market. Missing was a cute scene of Larry winning at a quarter toss against a wall (He references to "Johnny Angel"). The other missing scene is when the cop was trying to get a license plate and description of the 1969 Charger. The guys spat off great muscle car specs etc. I have a 20 yr copy from television with these scenes intact. What gives ?

Forget those "dinky" Hondas, Kias of today. See what America is all about.
