SummaryGood Singing, Satisfactory Comedy
Content
The plot set in 1916, the movie revolves around three silent movie actors called the Three Amigos. (played by Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, and Martin Short). In their movies, the Three Amigos are "three wealthy Spanish landowners" who fights for justice on behalf of people who can't fight for themselves. A woman, who lives in the Mexican village of Santa Poco, seeks help stopping a tyrant named El Guapo and his band of outlaws. The woman sees a "Three Amigos" movie and mistakenly believes the trio are real crime fighters. She sends a telegram to the "Three Amigos", who mistakenly believe the telegram is an offer to act with a famous Mexican actor named El Guapo. Naturally, the movie stars run from Santa Poco after one of them is shot and they realize this is not acting, but the real thing. The remainder of the film is the trio's comedic attempt to become the "Three Amigos" for real.

Three Amigos is kind of an enigma. This is one of those movies that are good, but I really could not say why (for me, other examples include The Blues Brothers and Spies Like Us). I felt there were only a few scenes that were really funny, such as the scene where they summon the invisible swordsman. However, the movie is filled with funny one liners such as "We're not Mexicans. We're not from around here." and the conversation about the mail plane. Personally, I thought the singing in the movie was impressive, especially when the actors are credited as singing all the music themselves.

The DVD lacks any special features other than actor bios/film highlights. Sam Kinison is credited in various sources (but not on the DVD) as playing a part as a Mexican bandit that a little research suggested that the scene was deleted. Personally, that would have been a scene I would have loved to see.

The content of the movie is very clean and would make a great film for the family to watch. Personally prefer comedy with "mature" content, but I still found the movie enjoyable. This is a movie I feel deserves a permanent place in most people's DVD collection, but it is a movie I would recommend waiting for a good price before you buy it.

SummaryWhere're the laffs?
Content
I love some of the reviews below for this film:"you snobs giving this a poor review need to learn to enjoy a good COMEDY!",and other similar deathless pronouncements. That's all well and good, but I prefer my comedies to be FUNNY,y'know?

Someone else mentioned Ebert's 1 star review--what some may not know is that Chevy Chase agreed with Ebert, telling him "I don't like it either".

This is just another flat attempt at comedy, with plenty of forced scenes, and a script nearly devoid of any humor whatsoever.I don't think the casting is inspired, but I doubt any collection of all-star comedic actors could do anything worthwhile with the script.

This movie reminds me a lot of 'Spies Like Us',another un-funny film from around this time.Chase made a lot of bad choices in the '80s.

SummaryFace it: some people like this movie, some don't
Content
I like it. I remember when it came out it got some bad reviews. So I expected very little from it when I saw it, and to my surprise I found it to be hilarious. I don't quite understand why some people don't think it's funny, but there you are.

Roger Ebert gave it one star. He wrote, "This movie is too confident, too relaxed, too clever to be really funny...My guess is they made it with too much confidence and not enough desperation."

Favorite line. Village girl: "I like the one who is not so smart". Her friend (thinks for a moment, then, puzzled): "Which one is that?"

SummaryIn agreeance w/ Jason Lee
Content
What are you two-star raters doing rating this movie? Stick to Titanic and It's a Wonderful Life. Take the movie for what it is. It's a humorous comedy that the whole family can watch, which is becoming more and more scarce. It was a family favorite at my house and never got old for me. Maybe I'll review a tasteful comedy such as Scary Movie next.

SummaryClassic Comedy
Content
Those who are writing reviews and giving the movie one or two stars are tasteless. The movie is a wonderful comedy made in 1986 that is set in the early 1900s. The Three Amigos go to put on a show with someone that they believe is a great actor in Mexico, but rather were requested to actually fight the "infamous" El Guapo. Comedy actors like Jim Carry and Eddie Murphey could learn from this brilliant movie.
