 | In this movie we see a car salesman namd Jerry , played wonderfully by William H. Macy. Jerry is having some financial difficulties so he enlists the help of two low life crooks to kidnap his wife. However things don't go "According To Plan"(they never do) and the Body Count soon starts to rise.Steve Buscemi gives a great performance as one of the crooks and even remarks after he has been shot that "you should see the other guy". There is one particular scene where the American Diet is poked fun at by the HUGE meal that is served at an "All You Can Eat "restaurant"!!! This movie is dark, brooding and also very funny.Did I like this movie? Yar , I did!!! |

 | "Fargo" is absolutely a black comedy except for the disturbing fact that it actually happened (real people were murdered). There is a poignant aura to the film, beautifully echoed by a recurring high-pitched synthesizer theme in the sound track. Although all actors were excellent, many of us tired of the local accent parody "yaahs." For me, the real comedy was driven by Steve Buscemi, who by the way didn't need the "yaahs." An exquisite moment: His date with a local hooker & Jose Feliciano & champaigne in a bucket in an Elk's club "Only the Best!" |

 | seriously, come on, 4 stars? are you joking? this is a pure five star film through and through.
it's not the Coen's best, but it's damn close.
brilliant performances from the cast all around (most noted Frances McDormand, obviously, and Steve Buscemi.)
i have to say i find it hilarious that some people based their 1 star reviews on how the characters, native to minnesota, talked. can't take a joke, 'ey?
it really is an american classic, up there with Citizen Kane. |

 | Fargo is a wonderful piece of modern crime film making. The script is clever, suspenseful, violent and very, very funny. It's greater success hinges on the cast and the wonderful performances. Without this cast, it could have become a very different film. Not enough can be said about the perfection that is McDormand in this film. Her potrayal of Margie G., police woman and midwest pregnant housewife is a revelation. While she actually has les screen time than some of the others, she creates a character that will forever be remembered in American cinema. A true triumph. William H. Macy - who also deserved an Oscar- is a stressed-out, comically twitching raw nerve. Just superb. Buscemi and Stormare are the perfect dopey villains and Presnell as Macy's father-in-law might be the most villainous of all.
Beautifully filmed and acted, it is a true gift to the audience from the Coen brothers and deserved all its acclaim and more. |

 | "Fargo" is one of my all-time favorite movies. It is witty, complex, nuanced, and darkly humorous. It is also quirkily violent and incredibly well acted; Frances McDormand certainly deserved her Best Actress Oscar for her role as Police Chief Marge Gunderson.
The plot is far too convoluted to explain, but involves kidnap-for-hire, fraud, extortion, and several creepy murders. William H. Macy plays the principal male lead as a car dealer in need of quick cash. Before he knows it, things have spun wildly out of his control. The first time watching "Fargo" is a wild ride where you must really pay attention; further, it is one of very few movies that is genuinely unpredictable. I think the last ten minutes of the film is some of the best celluloid ever produced.
This version of the DVD doesn't have a lot of extras, but there is a newer release that has quite a few, so buy according to your own preferences.
This is a great movie, and I recommend it without reservation to adults everywhere.
