Tree Hill Cheerleader
Queen of Pasadena's Tournament of Roses Parade (2000), Sophia Bush rose to fame being cast as aggressive cheerleader Brooke Davis on WB's teenage soap, One Tree Hill (2003). Brown-haired Sophia, who stands at 5' 6" inches tall, was also noticed after being listed as one of Much Music's 20 Hottest Women and Femme Fatales' 50 Sexiest Women (both in 2004).
Bush married her One Tree Hill costar actor Chad Michael Murray in April 2005. The couple became headlines in September 2005 when they announced split. However, recent reports (February 2006) said that the 23-year-old actress is seeking to annul her five-month marriage to Murray.
Childhood and Family:
The only child in the family, Sophia Bush was born on July 8, 1982 in Pasadena, California. She attended Westridge, an all-girls high school in Pasadena, California and was a member of the sorority Kappa Gamma at the University of South California, in which she studied Journalism.
During the making of One Tree Hill, Sophia met and fell in love with her playmate actor Chad Michael Murray (born on August 24, 1981). The couple became engaged in May 2004 while Murray was filming the remake of the horror film, House of Wax, in Australia. They exchanged wedding vows on April 16, 2005, but surprised public when they announced split only five months (September 2005) after their marriage. However, recent rumors (February 2006) spread that Bush is seeking to annul her five-month marriage to Murray.
When Sophia is not busy with filming, she becomes an Assignment Editor for a student news organization, Annenberg TV News. Sophia loves scrapbooking, reading and hanging out with friends.
One of her friends, James Lafferty (One Tree Hill costar) said, "We hang out a lot, and she makes me laugh. The reason for this is because this was the first major thing me and her had done, so we kind of stuck together in the beginning. Now we try and get together as much as possible. Chad's a real lucky guy."
"I love being in someone else's skin every day." Sophia Bush
Initiating her acting career in high school plays, Sophia Bush soon gained wide recognition after being crowned the Pasadena Rose Queen in 2000. Two years later she landed her first silver screen appearance playing the character of freshman student Sally in Walt Becker's R-rated comedy, Van Wilder (a.k.a. National Lampoon's Van Wilder, starring Ryan Reynolds and Tara Reid). During the same year, Sophia also appeared on television, being cast as Carrie Orr on the HBO's crime-drama movie, Point of Origin (a.k.a. In the Heat of Fire, with Ray Liotta and John Leguizamo).
Sophia continued to work on films in the next years, including portraying Rodney Scott's girlfriend, Beth, in Kilian Kerwin's independent movie, Learning Curves (2003, alongside Lindsay Frost and Nate Dushku). During the year Sophia also won a leading role in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003). However, she eventually lost the role to Claire Danes after director Jonathan Mostow considered Sophia to be too young. Meanwhile, Bush guest starred in TV series such as playing the character of Fate Mackenziem, a competitor to prime character Sabrina, in an episode of WB's Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. Sophia was also spotted in several episodes of the FX's Nip/Tuck, in which she portrayed wicked teenage bisexual Ridley. "Brooke doesn't apologize for herself. I love that about her! She's like, `Look, this is me. This is what I like. This is what I do.
Take it or leave it.' She's like any other woman who is not quite comfortable in her own skin. She goes home and cries when she is alone." Sophia Bush
Sophia's breakout role came in 2003 when she portrayed feisty, popular cheerleader Brooke Davis in Warner Brothers' teenage show, One Tree Hill (starring off-screen fiancé Chad Michael Murray). "She's really good at it. She can be incredibly vulnerable... Sophia is pretty great. She's a good sport. She's compassionate and caring. She can be serious at times. Driven. She's also very nurturing. And she's doing an amazing job as Brooke Davis and I love her for that." Mark Schwann (One Tree Hill creator)
In 2004, Steve Boyum cast Sophia as Zoe Lang in his feature action film, Supercross, in which she shared the screen with Daryl Hannah and Robert Patrick.
"To be happy, it first takes being comfortable being in your own shoes. The rest can work up from there. The hardest situation to stay happy in, I think, is when you're trying to find love, and yourself at the same time. It just doesn't seem to fit well. So I believe that happiness is being able to wake up and just know that this is what you wanted, and not what somebody else wanted. And remember, a smile is contagious!" Sophia Bush
