SummaryThis time, they've brought friends...
Content
ALIENS is the blockbuster sequel to the groundbreaking film ALIEN. This time, King of the world James Cameron (TITANIC) takes the directing reigns previously held by Ridley Scott (Gladiator). And Cameron has created a long, sturdy follow-up. The "living ship" element of the prequel is replaced by the industrial environments Cameron uses in both Terminators and "The Abyss". But, how can you top on lone individual trapped with an impervious super beast? How about by having hundreds of them! That is basically the concept here.

Ripley (Sigourney Weaver in her academy award nominated portrayal) reluctantly returns to the planet where she first encountered a derelict ship and the alien that destroyed her crew. This time she is going on strictly as an observer amongst a band of tough marines. But, even with all their bravado, she doubts their chances against the alien race. This film also has a maternal flavor to it. We find out that Ripley has a child that has since passed on and so she `adopts' a lone gamin from the alien infested command center. Her final battle is against the mother alien in a way that even Jerry Springer couldn't control.

This film had very little chance of surpassing the original on ALIEN turf, so it redefined it. It definitely surpasses ALIEN as an action film with relentless excitement and twists. The alien race is even less human as they seem to have stopped their bi-pedal locomotion from the first film in favor of a `crawl quickly along floor, wall or ceiling'. The DVD can truly test your sub-woofer and the video transfer is fine and it includes 17 minutes of extra footage. This was followed by 2 more sequels but, This and ALIEN on its own make for a great rainy day double feature.

SummaryThe Alien series just went up a notch!
Content
This is so far my favorite of the Alien series. It wasn't as good as Predator 2, mind you, which I would give a 10, but I would still give this second Alien movie a 9 out of 10. The fight scenes were really cool, intense, and wicked stellar, the Alien's themselves were scarier, nastier, and more vicious and bloodthirsty than ever before(as well as bigger and stronger!)I loved the team that Ripley and Newt made(I love it when I see girlpower, being a female lover) and I thought the other soldiers were wicked awesome, especially with a large gun in their hands, be it flame-thrower, shotgun or a grenade launcher. The Alien births were cooler and bloodier than the first movie, and there was tons and tons of suspense, as well! Oh, and to you who love to curse, this movie had a lot more language than the first one! (Hot Dog!)Anyway, this is the second best space monster movie I have ever seen next to Predator 2, and I recommend it to all who like or love bloody and action packed science fiction movies.

SummaryAliens
Content
Aliens is easily the best in the whole quadrilogy. It has some of the suspense and horror from the original mixed in with loads of action. All which add up to be a great movie. Sigourney Weaver deserved an oscar for her wonderful reprise as Ripley. And Carrie Henn,Newt, acted amazing for a child her age and melted the audience's hearts in the process. If you enjoyed Alien, and love a good action movie, Aliens is for you.

SummaryA Choice I Don't Regret
Content
I was at Blockbuster, I was caught up deciding between Alien and Aliens, I picked Aliens and didn't regret it, it was great! In fact, it was so good that, now, I own the DVD.

Aliens is definitely not a waste of 2 hours. In choice of Rent or Buy, definite Buy. If you're looking to buy a good movie you'll enjoy, pick up a copy of Aliens.

SummaryA Bit Of A Disappointment
Content
It's funny that I went and saw Aliens when it originally came out and all but forgotten much about it since I haven't seen much of the movie since then. I seem to recall CBS airing the movie seen on this DVD with much if not all of its extended scenes and I don't think that version was ever aired again on network TV. So I'm now pretty glad that Aliens in all of its entirety is now on DVD.

But sad to say, the DVD is a slight let-down. Nothing major, just the sound quality not being equal jumping from soft, almost indistinguishable dialogue to loud gunfire and explosions. I either had to suddenly turn the sound up or suddenly turn it down; there was no midway.

And I was disappointed with the special features-- also because of the sound. There were great behind-the-scenes segments showing how the models were made, showing how the Alien queen was opereated, what when on inside the face-huggers, etc. Great stuff, but there was no sound! You would think there would be a bit of background music or some narration, but we get nothing to
show for such great scenes but dead silence, except in just one segment.

If it wasn't for those problems with the sound, I would give the movie five stars, but I can't do that, so I give only three although it really deserves more.
