Shainee Gabel is a filmmaker/author who makes her directorial debut with A Love Song for Bobby Long from her script (inspired by the novel Off Magazine St. by R.E. Capps). Her first feature Anthem, a documentary co-directed with Kristin Hahn, received a national theatrical release, was honored by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences as one of that year's outstanding documentaries, and received an International FIPRESCI Critics Prize. A companion narrative, Anthem: An American Road Story, was published by Harper Collins.
Prior to Anthem, Gabel spent two years as the first Programming Director of the Los Angeles Film Festival and three years as the Director of Programming for the IFP/West where she produced her first short while running a film-mentoring program for young women in Los Angeles.
