Summary....WHY did they do it?!??!?!??
Content
I was always a fan of the original Highlander, and when I heard there was to be a sequel (even though I wasn't sure how that could have been done since MaCleod had already won "The Prize"), I was truly stoked to see it!
Imagine my heartfeld disappointment to learn that the fools who wrote this film deceided to explain the Immortals as being from "The Planet Geist".
It is my earnest hope that someone has given them a solid punch in the face for doing that!!
Did they really think this was a good idea?
I can just imagine some Hollywood office, where some idiotic fools (like the ones responsible for Lawnmower Man 2) came up with the idea...."Hey, J.B., how about we try to explain the Immortals as being....ALIENS!!!" ..."Hank, BUBBIE...that's SENSATIONAL!"...."And how about an environmental angle...such as, say, having Macleod saving the world by designing a shield to protect the world because the ozone layer has dissolved away"....."Hank, BUBBIE! You're a GENIUS! That can be what the whole "Prize" thingy was about, oy vey!".
So the idea of the Planet Geist was born.
Note that all subsequent Highlander films (as well as the series) DO NOT mention anything about "Aliens from the Planet Geist"...nor should they, as Highlander 2, even though it starred Chritopher Lambert and Sean Connery, has been officially stricken from the Highlander canon, IE it's simpley treated like it never existed (and rightly, rightly so!).
So, if you're a fan of the original Highlander film and have never seen this one, do yourself a favor and avoid it, as it is not considered an official part of the ongoing Highlander storyline.
It's been 13 years since this horrible slap in the face has premeired, and I am bitter that Highlander fans have still not received an apology.

SummaryA Prime Example of the Absence of Intelligence
Content
I whole-heartedly agree with the other reviews as to the quality of this movie. All things pertaining to this second edition of the Highlander series aught to be gathered together and destoyed. Having said that, if you are a loyal Highlander fan and must have this film just because it is Highlander don't waste time with the original version. The editing on that version left much to be desired and the film became choppy and made little sense. The Renegade version re-introduces some of those much needed scenes and is the only reason this movie gets a star at all. Just keep in mind that this is not the Highlander that we know and love.

SummaryI want that 138 minutes of my life back.
Content
On my deathbed I will only have two regrets: 1) I didn't spend enough time with my kids and 2) I saw "Highlander 2" in the theater when it came out in the 90s. Director's Cut? What this film REALLY needs is an "Audience Cut" consisting of fans of the first film telling people their ideas for a sequel ... all of which would probably be better than this trash.

SummaryVery bad and contradicts the first film greatly
Content
I don't think the the "writer" of this movie saw the first one. If you accept the story in this, then most of the things we learned in the much better first film couldn't have happened the way they were portrayed. I haven't seen either movie in a while, but I remember Sean Connery and Christopher Lamberts characters meeting each other for the first time in the first movie, on Earth. Now according to the second movie they were the leaders of a rebelion on an alien planet together before they were ever sent to Earth, and knew each other very well years before the scene that takes place in the first movie -- even though that scene is very specic that they are meeing for the first time. Of course, in the first movie they weren't aliens, but in the second one they were. And, of course, they were sent to Earth as a punishment (according to the second movie,) but being sent to Earth somehow makes them immortal. If they want to be able to age and die, according to the second movie, they have to kill off all the other immortals. Excuse me, what? If they want to be able to age and die, they have to fight to stay alive until they've killed everyone else who wants to be able to age and die? In the first movie they were fighting for the ultimate prize -- which seemed to be power. In the second they were fighting to stay alive so that they could die. And of course, in the second movie after Lamberts character has been on Earth for five hundred years, after he's won the ability to die, after he's gotten sick and is just about to die, the guy who sent him to Earth to die in the first place decides he can't wait any longer for Lambert to die, and sends other aliens to kill him. Naturally, the arrival of the other aliens makes Lambert young and strong again, thereby saving his life. And why exactly was the guy who sent Lambert to Earth still alive five hundred years later? He wasn't immortal. And, I'm sorry, he's waited five hundred years, but now that Lambert has at best months left to live, he can't wait any longer? And how the heck did Sean Connery come back to life? This was/is absolutely the worst sequal I have ever seen, and everyone involved with it should be ashamed. I've seen bad sequals before, but I've never seen one that so completely and utterly contradicted the movie that came before it. Really, I don't believe the writer of this trash ever bothered to watch the first movie, and never asked many questions about it. His entire research must have been, "so there's immortals in it, but all but one of them are dead. Ok, I got it. I'll go from there. Just be warned I suck as a writer." And the director, producer, and stars showed a complete lack of integrity by accepting the script. I could go on and on, but there isn't any point.

SummaryWorst major film ever?
Content
Probably the worst film ever made, outside of low budget trash films. From the awful script, lousy acting, ridiculous plot, all the way to the Sean 'just give me my check and I'm outa here' Connery cameo, this movie absolutely reeks of a thrown together corpse looking for a payday.Absolute waste of time--I saw it at a second run theater with a friend (against my better judgement),and I would have left in the first half hour,if my friend wasn't also my ride.

It's especially a travesty since they doubtless counted on suckering in fans of the first film, which was entertaining in a campy way. This movie was entirely a cynical business transaction.Zero stars.
