SummaryBrilliant Film
Content
One of my all time favorites. Attenborough weaves a fascinating story, containing rich characters, that moves to a satisfying conclusion. Goldman's script doesn't give short shrift to the Americans, Brits, or Germans. The actors' performances are first rate. Connery, O'Neal, Gould, Caine, Bogarde, and Hopkins are at their best.

SummaryEPIC Masterpiece
Content
This is definately the best war movie that I have ever seen (and I've seen em' all; Pearl Harbor, Saving Private Ryan, Enemy at the Gates,Apocalypse Now, etc. etc.). The only word to describe this movie is epic, with its expert direction from Sir Richard Attenborough and his equally expert cinamatography. Yessir, a top-notch movie and the perfect war film.

SummaryThe only movie deserves the name of EPIC!
Content
All I can say is: my jaw dropped of watching this movie. I was in real war you know, and this movie made me feel that I was in a real war again! this is not only an action but a real epic movie. perhaps the only movie I can call it epic. every single scene of it was true and the details were unbeleavably right! and maybe funny to mention, there is no additional love scenes or heros to fool women and encourage them to watch it! well, this is my opinion cause it makes me feel the smell of my best days again!
at the other hand, at an oridinary costumer's point ot view, this movie could probably be boring, or making no sense. Specially if you're not single, it would be hard to watch such movie cause women hate such movies!
There is something I have to say about this DVD. I don't know if there are two releases of this movie on DVD, cause I've not bought it from amazon.com, but if there is only one release, the product information on this site is crude. let me make it complete, Special features of this DVD (or my DVD) consist of :

1. An audio commentary
2. Documentaries & Featurettes
3. Photo gallery
4. Theatrical trailer

SummaryOne of the better war movies, but dvd not particularly good
Content
Very good adaption of the Ryan book, which stays about as true to the epic narrative as is probably possible. I've seen others remark that the score to the movie sometimes is out of place, and I would agree, but it's still one of my favorite movie scores, and is quite rousing.

I'm generally not a fan of the 'big name star stew' casting, but it works, for the most part, in thhis movie. Bogarde and Hackman are especially good. One of my pet peeves in war movies is obvious anachronism. It appears here in the use of modern vehicles in place of period German tanks. I can excuse this, since this movie didn't have the boundless budget of, say, Saving Private Ryan. They did at least use Shermans for the Allies. Overall, the movie is entertaining, and reasonably true to the book/historical events.

The dvd itself, however, is nothing special. The picture isn't horrible, but it's a little grainy, and you get oretty frequent flashes of scarred film. The movie would probably need a serious revamping, a la 'Vertigo' or 'Rear Window' to substantially improve this, though, so this is likely the best we'll get.

SummarySimply the best World War 2 movie I have ever watched
Content
It is long (about 3 hours), so be prepared. But not only is the cast outstanding but the writers and director did an outstanding job of catching the feel (and a great many of the details) of the operation. The movie is very true to the book it's based on, having many of the strengths (and a few of the weaknesses) of the book. Overall, though, it does a first-rate job of showing the many blunders of both sides, as well as the heroism and leadership which, in the end, could not save the day.
