South African-born American actress and singer Sasha Pieterse is best known for playing Alison DiLaurentis on the ABC Family series “Pretty Little Liars” (2010-2014) and as Buffy Davis on the Warner Bros. series “Family Affair” (2002), from which she won a 2003 Young Artist Award. She has also appeared in several films, including “G.B.F.” (2013) and “Inherent Vice” (2014).   

Pieterse likes horse-riding. She also loves photography, scrapbooking, and interior and exterior design.

Childhood and Family:

Sasha Pieterse was born on February 17, 1996, in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. She immigrated to the United States at age 3, and was raised in Las Vegas. She later moved to Los Angeles. As the daughter of  a professional acrobatic dance partners, Sasha was introduced to show business at an early age. She started working on print work and commercials when she was four years old. She has since done a number of  television commercials, including long-running national spots for Nesquick and Firestone.

Family Affair


6 year old Sasha Pieterse made her professional television acting debut in the Warner Bros. comedy series “Family Affair” (2002), where she co-starred as Buffy Davis. Delivering a fine performance, she won a 2003 Young Artist for Best Performance in a TV Series (Comedy or Drama) - Young Actress Ten or Under for her effort. She also shared a Young Artist nomination for Best Ensemble in a TV Series (Comedy or Drama) for her work on the series.

After a guest appearance in “Stargate SG-1” (2004), Pieterse made her feature film debut in “The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D” (2005), portraying Marissa / Ice Princess. The same year, she appeared in episodes of “Wanted” (playing Millie Rose) and “House M.D.” (playing Andie). Pieterse next had roles on films such as “The Air I Breathe” (2007, playing Young Sorrow), “Good Luck Chuck” (2007, playing Goth Girl), “X-Men: First Class” (2011) and “G.B.F.” (2013, playing Fawcett Brooks).     

Apart from guest starring turns in “CSI: Miami” (2007) and “Without a Trace” (2009) and “Medium” (2011),  Pieterse portrayed Amanda Strazzulla  in both the web series “Heroes: Slow Burn” (2009) and the television series “Heroes” (2009-2010), and appeared in the made for TV films “Claire” (2007, playing Maggie Bannion) and “Geek Charming” (2011, playing Amy Loubalu).

In 2010, Pieterse joined Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Tyler Blackburn, Holly Marie Combs, Lucy Hale, Ian Harding, Bianca Lawson, Laura Leighton, Chad Lowe, Shay Mitchell and Janel Parrish to star in the teen drama mystery/thriller series “Pretty Little Liars,” which premiered on the ABC Family on June 8, 2010. She was cast as Alison DiLaurentis in the series.

In 2014, Pieterse guest starred as Dawn Hatfield on an episode of “Hawaii Five-0” called “Pe'epe'e Kainaka” and worked with Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio del Toro, Jena Malone, Maya Rudolph and Martin Short on the crime/comedy film “Inherent Vice,” which premiered at the 2014 New York Film Festival. The film is scheduled to be released theatrically in the United States on December 12, 2014.

Pieterse will play Aria in the upcoming drama movie “Burning Bodhi,” opposite Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting and Cody Horn.   

In addition to modeling and acting, Pieterse is a singer. She signed a record deal with Dan Franklin Music. She has released four singles: “This Country is Bad Ass” (April 2013), “R.P.M”  (June 13), “I Can't Fix You” (July 2013) and “No” (December 2013).
