American actress Sarah Wayne Callies is best known for her roles as Sara Tancredi in the Fox television series “Prison Break” (2005-2009) and Lori Grimes in AMC's “The Walking Dead” (2010-2013), which earned her a Satellite Award and a Saturn nomination. She has acted in many films, including “Whisper” (2007), “Bittersweet” (2008), “Lullaby for Pi” (2010), “Faces in the Crowd” (2011) and “Black November” (2012). In 2008, she was selected as one of Maxim's “The Hottest Women of Fall TV.”

Callies is married to Josh Winterhalt, and has one daughter, Keala Winterhalt (born in 2007). She is close friends with “Prison Break” co-star Wentworth Miller.

Childhood and Family:

Sarah Wayne Callies was born Sarah Anne Callies on June 1, 1977, in La Grange, Illinois. Her family relocated to Honolulu, Hawaii when she was one. Her parents are professors at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. Sarah graduated from Punahou High School in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1995. She went on to receive an undergraduate emphasis in Feminist Studies and a Senior Fellowship in Indigenous Theology from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire in 1999. In 2002, she got a Master of Fine Arts degree from Denver's National Theater Conservatory. Sarah was interested in acting since she was young.

On June 21, 2002, Sarah was married to Josh Winterhalt, a martial arts teacher. They welcomed a baby girl, Keala Winterhalt, on July 20, 2007.


The Walking Dead

Career:

Sarah Wayne Callies landed her first television role in 2003 in the CBS dramedy series “Queens Supreme,” starring Oliver Platt. There she played the recurring role of Kate O'Malley. Later that same year, she was cast in the main role of Det. Jane Porter on the WB series “Tarzan,” based on the “Tarzan” series by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Premiered on October 5, 2003, the series ended on November 23, 2003 after eight episodes aired. Callies also made guest appearances in “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (2003, playing Jenny Rochester) and “Dragnet” (2003, playing Kathryn 'Kate' Randall) as well as starred as Laura Kelly on the made for television film “The Secret Service” (2004), opposite Shane Brolly and Shohreh Aghdashloo.

After appearing as Agent Kim Hall in an episode of “Numb3rs” called “Counterfeit Reality” (2005), Callies gained her breakthrough role as Dr. Sara Tancredi on the action/crime series “Prison Break,” which premiered on Fox on August 29, 2005. Due to pregnancy, her character was written out of the show during its third season. Sara was killed off, but was brought back for fourth season. It was informed that her death was staged. Callies also appeared in the 2009 TV film “Prison Break: The Final Break.”  

In the meantime, Callies appeared in a few films, such as the independent film “The Celestine Prophecy” (2006), the Stewart Hendler directed horror “Whisper” (2007), where she portrayed the fiancée of Josh Holloway, and “Bittersweet” (2008), a drama written and directed by Greg Levins. She provided the voice of Debra Morgan in the video game “Dexter the Game” (2009).

After “Prison Break” left the airwaves in 2009, Callies starred as Lori Grimes in the horror series “The Walking Dead,” which premiered on AMC on October 31, 2010. She was on the show from its debut until the last episode of season 3, which aired on March 31, 2013. For her work on the series, Callies was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Actress on Television in 2011 and won a  Satellite Award for Best Cast - Television Series in 2012.

Callies also appeared in various films during 2010-2012. She played Chloe/Sally in the TV film “Tangled” (2010), co-starred with Forest Whitaker in the drama film “Lullaby for Pi,” which was released in France on December 1, 2010, and worked with Billy Zane, Tom Sizemore, Vivica A. Fox and Eric Roberts in the drama “Black Gold” (2011). She starred opposite Milla Jovovich, Julian McMahon, David Atrakchi, Michael Shanks and Sandrine Holt in the thriller film “Faces in the Crowd” (2011), shared the screen with Juliette Lewis in the drama film “Foreverland” (2011) and played Kate Summers in “Black November” (2012).

In 2014, Callies will play Allison Stone in the upcoming thriller movie “Into the Storm,” which is set to be released on August 8. Her co-stars in the film include Richard Armitage, Jeremy Sumpter, Nathan Kress and Matt Walsh.
