all of the performances are great!!No oscar winner, but is totally a new classic in its own time.Sarah CAN ACT no matter what stupid, ignorant, idotic comments have been made in the past. She won her Emmy for a reason people!!I've done my Homework...

SummaryStill shocked
Content
It is one of the most weird and saddest movies I've ever seen. I cannot forgive those who made it that they did not state clearly who is evil and who innocent among characters. It can easily serve as model for empty headed youngsters how to become mooks and (...)be proud of it at the same time. I must praise Reese Witherspoon for genuine acting but I still shudder with the very thought of it. Hope I won't know anybody like them.

SummaryLoved it
Content
I have watched "Cruel Intentions" like a thousand times. It is my favorite movie of all time. I love the characters and the plot. If you have seen the movie, I hope you agree. I recommend everyone see it, but after seeing it, skip "Cruel Intentions 2" and go straight to "Cruel Intentions 3". CI2 sucks and CI3 is quite impressive.

SummaryA rose among thorns...
Content
I have to be honest, I usually hate teen movies. I find their premise normally shallow and I am usually left unentertained. But surprisingly, I found that I was pinching myself several times while watching this movie because it is unbelievably good. It seems that this was actually a remake of another movie. I don't know if Cruel Intentions lived up to that movie, but one thing I do know...I really enjoyed it.

The story revolves around two siblings, Sebastian and his stepsister Kathryn. Kathryn is the very definition of a two-headed snake. She's prim and proper on one side, and a total b*tch on another. Sebastian meanwhile, is an open book. The whole world knows he's one charming jerk. Together, the two create havoc among their peers. They backstab and sweet-talk their way to getting things done for their own satisfaction. Kathryn proposes a new challenge for Sebastian, that he's to bed Annette, the new principal's daughter/virgin of the school. Sebastian of course, ends up falling in love with Annette, but will they end up together? Throw in some secondary characters, some plot twists and the result is a whole lotta fun.

A big part of why I enjoyed this show is definitely the cast. Sarah Michelle Gellar does a complete 180 degrees for her role of Kathryn. It was like the Buffy we knew was never there. She is so deliciously evil, manipulating everybody around her, twisting and turning facts to her advantage. Ryan Phillippe initially plays Sebastian cool as a cucumber, but ends up with feelings of pain and torment to reflect what his character is going through. Although it's not an Oscar-worthy performance, heck...it's really convincing and doesn't seem fake or pre-conceived. Reese Witherspoon plays Annette with spunk and the whole "women power" aura...the reluctant lover. Even the supporting cast, Selma Blair, Joshua Jackson and Sean Patrick Thomas were a delight to watch. I guess, it's because they play such different characters than what they're accustomed to play.

The script is also better than most teen garbage Hollywood throws at us. It stays away from the Land of Predictability, the plot twists were believable and the end was a stunner. Trust me, not your typical ending. And the music selection was also impressive, it gave the movie that extra feel.

In short, I really liked this movie. It's not groundbreaking, but it does stand out. I have since watched this movie at least 5 times, and never tire of it. Definitely recommended!

Summarypeople are too harsh

This film doesn't try to be great. You all act like it won a bunch of awards or something, so you must be outraged. It's just some dumb little teen movie, why does it upset you so much? I'd like to know what you were actually EXPECTING from this movie going in, cinematic genius? As far as it being "offensive"...pay more attention to the ratings next time. This movie is rated --->R<---. Stick to Stuart Little and Grease if you are that touchy.

Basic plot: Kathrine and Sebastian are rich step-siblings who get their jollies by hurting other people. They make a bet that Sebastian can seduce Annette, the virtuous daughter of their school's principal. Sebastian can't decide if he's in love with Annette or Kathrine.
Sub-plot: Katherine's boyfriend dumped her for the innocent, virginal Cecile. Katherine gets revenge by having Sebastian corrupt her, and turn her into a tramp(so her boyfriend won't want her), and getting Cecile in trouble in other cruel ways. Sebastian becomes torn, he is so disgusted with his behavior, but he still thinks he's in love with his step-sister.

As far as teen movies go, this one was somewhat sophisticated. I know that isn't saying much.

The music is a big plus. Think of movies like American Pie, where you can't go five minutes without having to suffer through some moronic pop-punk tune. This is one of the worst things about teen movies. They assume the audience has such a short attention span that we can only concentrate on the movie if we have a new song every scene. Anyway, the music in this movie is good. It's not intrusive and the songs aren't bad. The song at the end fits perfectly (Bittersweet Symphony)

The acting was indeed cheesy. But I think that's how they WANTED it to be. It worked. It's not that they "can't act". They were SUPPOSED to be over the top. That's why one of the gay guys was so femme, and the other was the typical macho homophobe who is secretly gay. Not because the director was a homophobe, but because this movie is supposed to be over the top and decadent! Lighten up.

The script was unimaginative, and the dialogue somewhat weak. But it wasn't terrible, and the overall story was decent, and admittedly unoriginal.

I think this is worth a rental at least, assuming you are under thirty or have a good sense of humor. Don't take it so seriously. This movie is not, by any stretch of imagination, a masterpiece. But what does it say about you, if that's what you expected it to be? Good fun.
