In the Meantime

Career:

At the age of seven, Royston Langdon joined the Leeds Parish Church choir along with his older brother Antony and immediately developed an interest in music. He then began joining various band projects before eventually landed in New York City, where the 19-year old Royston and his brother Antony formed the glam/alternative rock band "Spacehog." They were joined by Jonny Cragg and Richard Steel, all of whom hailed originally from Leeds, England. With Royston on bass and vocals, Antony on guitar and vocals, Richard on guitar, and Jonny on drums, the band signed in 1994 with Seymour Stein to Sire Records.

As a member of "Spacehog," Royston released the band's debut album, "Resident Alien" (1995), which went gold on the Billboard charts. It spun off the hit single and video "In the Meantime," which featured as background music to BBC's "Match of the Day" football programme, as well as the single "Cruel to be Kind."

In 1998, the band issued their second effort, "The Chinese Album," which featured a more "artsy" sound, but did not sell as well as their previous album. However, the band managed to climb to popularity as they opened for popular acts like “Pearl Jam” and “Supergrass.”

“Spacehog”'s third album, "The Hogyssey," hit the music stores on April 10, 2001. It featured the singles "I Want To Live" and "At Least I Got Laid," as well as a funkified version of Richard Strauss's "Also sprach Zarathustra." The band made their final major tour outing after joining The Black Crowes and Oasis on the Tour of Brotherly Love.

After quietly breaking up in 2002, “Spacehog” members went their separate ways. Royston subsequently form the band "The Quick," later renamed "The Tender Trio," with one of the former members of "Blind Melon," Rogers Stevens, and drummer Rene Lopez in 2004. Unfortunately, the band was short-lived, they broke up on March 2, 2006.

Royston then formed another new band, "Arckid," alongside Antony and Christian Langdon, and later joined by former "Spacehog" bandmate Johnny Cragg. By June 2006, the newly-formed band had recorded eight songs with record producer and sound engineer Bryce Goggin, who had previously worked with “The Lemonheads” and “Trey Anastasio” as well as produced the first “Spacehog” single "In The Meantime," at Trout Studios in Brooklyn.
