Roselyn Sanchez is a Puerto Rican actress, singer-songwriter, model, producer and writer. She is most famous to television audiences for playing FBI agent Elena Delgado (2005-2009) in the CBS police procedural series “Without a Trace,” where she took home an ALMA Award for her performance, and as Carmen Luna in the Lifetime comedy/drama series “Devious Maids” (2013-present). On the wide screen, Sanchez is known for her roles in “Rush Hour 2” (2001), “Nightstalker” (2002) and “Act of Valor” (2012), to name a few.

Sanchez has been married twice. She has a daughter with second husband Eric Winter. Sanchez is an advocate for animal rights and an active member of PETA. She appeared nude in a PETA ad in support of anti-fur campaign efforts.        


Childhood and Family:

Roselyn Sanchez Rodriguez, who would later be popular as Roselyn Sanchez and is known with the nicknames Popi and Ros, was born on April 2, 1973, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She is the youngest of four siblings, and has three older brothers. Despite an early interest in acting and dancing, Roselyn would later take a marking major at the University of Puerto Rico, following in the footsteps of her father and brothers. She, however, quit after three. At age 22, she left Puerto Rico to study dancing, acting and singing in New York City.

On August 9, 1998, Roselyn married actor Gary Stretch, but they later divorced on April 15, 2001. She then married actor Eric Winter on November 29, 2008, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. On January 4, 2012, the couple welcomed their firs child, a daughter Sebella Rose Winter.

Roselyn Sanchez made her professional acting debut with a small part as an island girl in the American comedy film “Captain Ron” (1992), starring Kurt Russell and Martin Short. The production of film was partially did in Puerto Rico. In the following year, Sanchez won the Miss Puerto Rico Petite title, and in 1994, she gained international popularity after crowning the international title of Miss American Petite.

Back to acting, Sanchez played the recurring role of Pilar Domingo on the CBS soap opera “As the World Turns” from 1996 to 1997. She got her first regular role in television when she was cast as Lili Arguelo in the syndicated drama series “Fame L.A.,” opposite Christian Kane, William R. Moses and Lesli Margherita. The series ran for a season of 22 episodes from October 19, 1997 to March 21, 1998. For her work on the series, Sanchez received an ALMA nomination in the category of Outstanding Individual Performance in a Nationally Syndicated Drama Series. In 1999, she had a supporting role in the comedy film “Held Up,” starring Jamie Foxx and Nia Long.

Sanchez's international popularity increased following her appearance in the box office movie “Rush Hour 2” (2001), the second installment in the “Rush Hour” series, starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. Playing Isabella Molina, an undercover United States Secret Service agent who was the  love interest of Chan, she was nominated for a 2002 ALMA Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her performance.

Sanchez continued to appear in movies such as “Boat Trip” (2002), “Nightstalker” (2002), where she netted a Fangoria Chainsaw nomination for Best Actress for her role as Gabriella Martinez, “Basic” (2003), “Chasing Papi” (2003, playing Lorena), “Larceny” (2004), “Edison” (2005), “State Property 2” (2005), “Underclassman” (2005) and the Puerto Rican movie “Cayo” (2005). She also made a guest appearance in the television series “In-Laws” (2002), “The Drew Carey Show” (2002) and “Dragnet” (2003-2004). She starred as ADA Carmen Warrick in the 2005 series “Kojak,” a remake of the 1970s hit series of the same name. “Kojak” ran on the USA Network from March 25, 2005 to May 22, 2005. Sanchez was nominated for a Black Reel for Best Actress – Television for her work on the series.

Meanwhile, Sanchez launched her first musical album, “Borinqueña,” on September 23, 2003 through BMG. The first single “Amor Amor” was nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Music Video. The song reached No. 38 on the US Hot Latin Charts and No. 32 on the US Latin Pop Charts. The second single “Noche De Verano” failed to chart.

In 2005, Sanchez joined the cast of the CBS television series “Without a Trace” in the fourth season, playing Agent Elena Delgado. She remained with the show until it ended after seventh season in 2009. She won an ALMA for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Television Series in 2008 and got three additional ALMA nominations for her fine acting. She also was nominated for an Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.

Sanchez co-wrote and produced the musical film “Yellow” (2006), where she also starred as a classically trained Puerto Rican dancer named Amarillys Campos. She was cast as a ballet teacher in the film “The Game Plan” (2007), appeared along with Patrick Bauchau, Tony Amendola, Isaac Singleton and Peter Lucas in the neo-noir drama film “The Perfect Sleep” (2009) and played the role of Kristen in “Venus & Vegas” (2010), an action/comedy film starring Donald Faison, Eddie Kaye Thomas and Eddie Guerra. She starred as CIA operative Lisa Morales in the war film “Act of Valor” (2012), from which she earned an ALMA nomination for Favorite Movie Actress – Drama/Adventure.

In 2013, Sanchez began her role as Puerto Rican singer Carmen Luna in the television comedy/drama series “Devious Maids,” opposite Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez and Judy Reyes. The series premiered on Lifetime on June 23, 2013.
