Phyllis Diller is a comedian, actress and many more. She has been in 16 movies, and also recorded 5 major comedy albums. She has done all that and still has written 4 best selling books. She has appeared in 100 symphony orchestras across the country. She has made many comedy acts that have very interesting.

She was born on July 17, 1917 Lima, Ohio. Her parents were older and she was an only child. She graduated from Central High School in 1935. Phyllis went to Chicago’s Music Conservatory and Bluffton College, where she studied to be a concert pianist. She married Sherwood Diller in 1939 and then moved to San Francisco. She wanted to have nine children but after five children she stopped. She had her first show as a stand-up comedian at San Francisco’s Purple Onion Club, in 1955. She was booked for two weeks but ended up staying for 89 weeks!

Before her success she worked at a radio station called KSFO in San Francisco. Her husband pushed her to get a larger group of people to perform for. She went to the Red Cross and volunteered to entertain people with her great sense of humor. For four years her act was booked without a manger, publicist, or writer. Phyllis was famous for the wild wigs and crazy make-up that she wore. In 1971 she went on a piano tour with symphonies from Hawaii to Florida. Phyllis was married three times, widowed once, and divorced twice.

In 1998 she was the voice of the Queen in A Bug's Life. Phyllis Diller retired from the stage at the age of 84, in May 2002. She lives in Los Angeles. That is why she is a great comedian with many awards.
