Background:

New Zealand import Phil Keoghan is popular as the host of the American version of “The Amazing Race” on CBS, since its inception in 2001. He has collected seven Emmy Awards and other four nominations for his work on the show. Keoghan is also the creator and host of “No Opportunity Wasted,” which has been produced in the Unites States, New Zealand and Canada.

Mr. Keoghan currently lives in Los Angeles, California with his wife Louise Rodrigues and daughter Ellie.

Childhood and Family:

Phil Keoghan was born Philip John Keoghan on May 31, 1967, in Christchurch, New Zealand. His father, Dr. John Keoghan, is an agricultural scientist involved with conservation in New Zealand. He has a brother named Andrew Keoghan, who was a television reporter on Television New Zealand's “One News” and is a successful jazz singer. His sister, Ruth Keoghan Cooper, is an MBA graduate of Sydney's Macquarie University. In addition to Christchurch, Phil also spent his childhood in Antigua and Canada. He enrolled at St Andrew's College in Christchurch. He later moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in adventure television.

Phil is married to Louise Rodrigues. The couple have a daughter named Ellie Keoghan.


No Opportunity Wasted

Career:

At age 19, Phil Keoghan successfully scored presenting/reporting job in New Zealand children's show “Spot On” (1990). At the time, he was still completing a TV cameraman apprenticeship. Also in 1990, he became a presenter on “ 3.45 Live.” Following other presenter work in New Zealand television, including as a reporter on “That's Fairly Interesting,” he headed for Los Angeles to furtehr pursue his career.

Keoghan landed a stint as Road Warrior on “Breakfast Time,” a morning show on FX, in 1994. Two years later, he became a reporter on “FOX After Breakfast.”

Keoghan co-created and hosted the televisions series “Adventure Crazy,” which premiered in April 1998. the show emerged as one of the highest rated worldwide series for the Discovery Channel. He also co-created and co-produced other original series like “Keoghan’s Heroes,” an internationally syndicated show profiling thrill seekers around the world, “The Human Edge” (2001), a technology series for National Geographic Television.

Entering the new millennium, Keoghan hosted “Whose House is it Anyway?” (2000), but he did not receive a hug break until he joined the popular reality television game show “The Amazing Race” as the show's host in 2001. Keoghan later also serves as producer (106 episodes, 2005-2010), supervising producer (4 episodes, 2011) and co-executive producer (2 episodes, 2011). For her work on the series, the veteran New Zealand television personality has won seven Emmys Awards in the category of Outstanding Reality - Competition Program (2003-2009). He also was nominated for Emmy Awards for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program three times in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Apart from his gig on “The Amazing Race,” Keoghan managed to take other work. He hosted “Miss World 2003” and co-hosted “ Best of Both Worlds” (both 2003). In 2004, he created, hosted and executive produced “No Opportunity Wasted” for the Discovery Channel. The show has spawned a book co-authored by Keoghan, which encourages readers to create a 'list for life.' A New Zealand version of the show premiered on New Zealand's TV2 on November 12, 2006. A third version of the series premiered on CBC in Canada on October 3, 2007. In 2006, Keoghan made a cameo appearance as a student of the Jim Russell Racing School in “Speed Test Drive.” He hosted “ Everest: After the Climb” in the following year. 2008 saw him appear in “Million Dollar Password” and “Star Trek: Phase II,” in which he made a cameo as Admiral Keoghan in “Blood & Fire” Part One. The same year, he served as contributor on “CBS News Sunday Morning” (also 2008).

Keoghan has serves as Travel Correspondent for the CBS “Early Show.”
