Bo Brady of Days of Our Lives Background: American actor Peter Paul Reckell is best known as Bo Brady on one of the longest running scripted television programs in the world, “Days of our Lives,” a role he played from 1983 to 1987, then 1990 to 1992 and again from 1995 to present. He has collected five Soap Opera Digest Awards and one Daytime Emmy Award for the role. Other noteworthy roles include Eric Hollister on “As the World Turns” (1980-1982) and Johnny Rourke on “Knots Landing” (1988-1989). Reckell is currently married to singer Kelly Moneymaker. They have one daughter, Loden Sloan (born in 2007). Mr. Reckel has said that Loden will become the only biological child for he and his wife due to his concern to population control. As an avid environmentalist, Reckel also drives an electric car and frequently rides his bike 9 miles to work. Reckel enjoys practicing yoga, martial arts, swimming, horseback riding and mountain biking.
Childhood an Family: Peter Paul Reckell was born on May 7, 1955, in Elkhart, Indiana. He was raised in a farm in Michigan, along with his five siblings that included three girls and two boys. While in junior high school, Peter established theater sets and performed in the chorus, and finally became a theater technical director. He continued to perform in a number of plays throughout high school. After graduating, Peter attended the esteemed Boston Conservatory, in which he earned a BFA in Theater with a minor in Music and Dance. Peter has been married twice. His first marriage to Dale Kristien lasted from December 1987 to 1991. He married present wife Kelly Moneymaker on April 18, 1998. The couple welcomed a daughter, Loden Sloan, in November 2007.
Career: Peter Reckell entered the world of soap operas when he landed the role of Eric Hollister on CBS's “As the World Turns,” which he held between 1980 and 1982. In 1982, he made a guest appearance on an episode of the hit NBC sitcom “The Facts of Life” called “ The Affair,” playing Alan Cooke. Reckell's huge breakthrough arrived when he was cast as Bo Brady, the youngest of the series' Brady family, on the NBC daytime soap opera “Days of Our Live.” He originated the role on May 2, 1983 and would stay until 1987. During this period, he won the Soap Opera Digest Awards for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Soap Opera in 1984, for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Serial in 1985 and for Outstanding Young Leading Actor in a Daytime Serial in 1986. he also shared a Soap Opera Digest nomination for Favorite Daytime Super Couple on a Daytime Serial, with Kristian Alfonso. After leaving “Days of Our Live,” Reckell joined the cast of the CBS primetime soap “Knots Landing.” He played Johnny Rourke from 1988 to 1989. Also in 1988, the actor made his television movie debut in “Shades of Love: Moonlight Flight,” opposite Elizabeth M. Mason and James Bradford. There he played withdrawn musician Tommy Rivers. In 1990, Reckell returned to play Bo Brady on “Days of Our Lives.” He would stay until 1992. The Wichita, Kansas, native actor Robert Kelker-Kelly later replaced him for the role from 1992 to 1995 before Reckell again took the role in August 1995. In his third return to “Days of Our Lives,” Reckell was handed the Soap Opera Digest for Hottest Male Star in 1996 and for Favorite Couple in 2001. In 2002, he won the Daytime Emmy Special Fan Award for America's Favorite Couple, sharing with Kristian Alfonso. He also received a 2005 Daytime Emmy nomination for Special Fan Award for Irresistable Combination and a 2009 Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Meanwhile, Reckell played Danny in the TV film “Locked Up: A Mother's Rage” (1991) and reprised his role of Bo Brady in the TV special “Days of Our Lives: One Stormy Night” (1992). He also guest starred in “Baywatch”(1993) and “ Women of the House” (1995). In 2000, Reckell appeared in “Days of Our Lives' 35th Anniversary,” playing Bo Brady. The following year, he guest starred in an episode of the short lived series “Sheena.” Reckell made his feature film debut as Jeff in “Broken Bridges,” a 2004 drama directed and co-written by Rafigh Pooya. His second film role was as Dan Reynolds on 2009's drama, “Street Dreams,” starring Paul Rodriguez, Jr. 2009 also saw him guest star in “ 30 Rock.” In 2010, Reckell played Richard on “Venice: The Series,” a web series co-produced by and starring actress Crystal Chappell. Reckell also has acted in several stage productions, including “Moonchildren,” “The Fantasticks,” “Pirates of Penzance,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Guys and Dolls,” “Love Letters” and “Death Trap.”
