Jim Caldwell lays out keys for a Lions victory vs. Denver Broncos The Detroit Lions haven't had much success running the football this season, but they plan to stick with it tonight against the Denver Broncos (8:30 p.m., NBC).

Lions head coach Jim Caldwell, appearing on the Lions radio network before kickoff, was asked to identify the keys to victory tonight.

"We're going to have to be a little more patient with the run game," Caldwell told host and Lions play-by-play man Dan Miller. "We're just going to have to run it sometimes when you think we shouldn't run it. And we got to be able to give those guys the ball enough times to get things rolling and those pass rushers off our back, and help our quarterback."

The Lions offensive line struggled to protect quarterback Matthew Stafford last week in a 26-16 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, allowing eight hits on Stafford, who was 32 of 53 for 286 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

"A good running game is a quarterback's best friend," Caldwell said. "We have to make it more than respectable."

On the defensive side of the ball, Caldwell praised Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning but said the key for the Lions will be stopping the run....
