Why Cardale Jones made the wrong decision to stay at Ohio State After putting together arguably the greatest career by a college football QB in the history of the sport, Ohio State QB Cardale Jones has decided … he’s staying in college.

Jones called a press conference to announce that he is staying in school, rather than enter the NFL draft.

Three reasons he made the wrong choice:
(1) If his aspiration is to play in the NFL, the best place to learn to become an NFL quarterback is… the NFL.

It’s an annual rite that even the most experienced college QBs leave campus, find a QB “guru” and dramatically re-fashion their games to better align with what the NFL demands.

Only the most cynical college football apologist would insist that Jones’ NFL future is better off spending the next year playing in an Ohio State offense designed to optimize Urban Meyer’s winning percentage, not Jones’ NFL prospects – rather than working with a master NFL QB tutor like George Whitfield, then working in the film room and on the field with an NFL coaching staff whose incentive is to maximize Jones’ NFL potential.
(2) He isn’t even guaranteed to play for Ohio State next season.

He only played this season because TWO All-Big Ten QBs in front of him got injured. He might beat out Meyer favorite TJ Barrett next spring – but that’s a huge risk. If Jones spends next season on the bench, he will get even less preparation that will help his long-term pro career....
