Former MP Edwina Currie says 'Derbyshire true grit' helped her survive 'I'm a Celebrity... Get me out of here.' Former MP Edwina Currie has claimed it was ‘Derbyshire true grit’ that helped her survive the ITV reality show, ‘I’m a Celebrity... Get me out of here’.

High Peak-based Edwina, who was a late entrant into the jungle, said she hopes her jungle exploits have put Derbyshire on the map.

The 68-year-old, who was South Derbyshire MP between 1983 and 1997, made it into the show’s semi-finals before being eliminated by the public on December 6.

Speaking to the Derbyshire Times, Edwina said the challenge was easier than she thought.

She added: “It was a very enjoyable experience and they were a terrific bunch of people.

“I’ve long learned in Derbyshire to just wait and let things come to you. I had conversations with a four foot iguana, several snakes and loads of lizards.

“The right man definitely won, Jake has just started out while Foggy has had an extremely successful career. He is a very nice, gentle man and very honest.

“It was Derbyshire true grit that kept me going, I’ve spent the best part of two decades here and we say it like it is. I’m very proud of the county.”...
