'The Walking Dead' Recap: Rick & Daryl Escape Being Eaten At Terminus Are you ready for this? ‘The Walking Dead’ season 5 premiere is here, and it’s more bloody, intense, and, yes, filled with some crazy cannibals.

On the season 5 premiere of The Walking Dead, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) is ready to take back his life and escape the “sanctuary” known as Terminus. The Oct. 12 episode hits the ground running, and starts off just moments after Rick’s group has been locked in an empty train car. Now, the only question remaining is: who will survive the season 5 premiere?

‘The Walking Dead': Secrets Of Terminus Finally Revealed

It’s finally here! The Walking Dead has returned for season 5, and boy did it come back with a bang. (Literally. There was a “bang” in the first 5 minutes.)

First things first: we learned something very interesting about the history of Terminus and the troublesome Gareth (Andrew J. West). In a flashback only titled “THEN” we see Gareth and others locked in what appears to be the same train car Rick and the gang are now in. Gareth is trying to comfort another man who is upset about putting up the signs leading to Terminus, and in the background we hear the blood-curdling screams of someone’s next dinner.

Fast forward to now: Rick, Daryl (Norman Reedus), the gang, they’ve spent however long they’ve been in that train car making weapons out of every and anything they can find. This includes belt buckles, a wooden stake, anything.

Daryl spots 4 of Terminus’ people coming towards the train car and the entire group, including newbies Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), Eugene (Josh McDermitt), and Rosita (Christian Serratos), and they prepare for battle. Unfortunately, the people of Terminus are not stupid. They roll back the top of the train car and drop in a smoke bomb. We get to see what happens next from Rick’s perspective, after he’s been slammed on the ground and kicked in the face, and all we see next is a body being sawed apart on a table. CANNIBALS!

What comes next is horrifying. Rick, Daryl, Glenn (Steven Yeun), and Bob are hog tied and gagged while leaning over a metal tub. Next to them are 4 others.. You know things are bad when even Daryl looks terrified, and he definitely looks terrified.

The guys from Terminus, wearing blood-covered plastic aprons, start killing the four strangers one-by-one by hitting them in the back of the skull with a metal baseball bat and then slicing their necks open to drain them. It’s not for the faint of heart, and even I had to look away. A lot.

Fun fact: the redhead who got sliced open first was the boyfriend that Rick lost track of in the cul-de-sac where he banished Carol (Melissa McBride).

By the grace of zombie Gods, Gareth walks in and asks his guys for their round count — meaning how many bullets they shot off during the round up of Rick and his group. This leads Bob, silly, stupid little Bob, to try and get Gareth’s attention. Gareth succumbs, but quickly decides to use Bob and his sad babbling to get answers out of Rick. Mainly, he wants to know what Rick buried in the woods. It takes Gareth holding a knife against Bob’s eyeball for Rick to finally spill.

This is where my favorite line of the night comes into play: “A machete with a red handle. That’s what I’m going to use to kill you.”

Gareth finds Rick’s threat funny, and re-gags him so that his thugs can continue their murder spree. Just before Glenn is about to get a metal bat to the skull there’s gunfire in the background. Gareth calls for someone on a walkie, and then there is an explosion that rocks Terminus.

Carol Uses Zombie Blood & Gore To Invade Terminus

Carol, Tyreese, and Judtih are still wandering through the woods towards Terminus when they come upon a herd of walkers. They attempt to hide, but it’s gunfire and explosions in the distance that eventually turns the herd and saves their lives.

Moments later, the three of them stumble upon an abandoned cabin where a man is talking to someone else on a walkie-talkie about Michonne and Carl. He only refers to them by physical description, but it doesn’t take long for Carol to put a gun to his head and introduce herself as their friend.

Eventually, the cabin guy, clearly part of Terminus’ off-campus security, is tied up inside the cabin as Carol packs up his explosives and ammo and heads out, leaving Tyreese and Judith behind.

While they are left alone in the cabin, the Terminus guy delivers an amazing line: “I don’t have any friends. I mean, I know people, but they’re just a**holes I stay alive with.”

This is a tell-tale sign of those who have completely lost their humanity. To Rick, Daryl, Glenn, Maggie, Carl, and the rest — they are each other’s family. But for others? Humanity and emotional bonds are lost.

Meanwhile, Carol has killed a walker in the woods and is now covering herself in his blood and guts so that she can get close to Terminus as part of a herd. It works, and she arrives just in time to witness Rick, Daryl, Glenn, and Bob getting taken inside.

It is a mere moment later before we find out that Carol is the one that caused the explosion outside of Terminus. Being the smart survivor that she is, she shoots a hole in a gas tank and then points either a flare or a firework in it’s direction. BOOM. Lots of walkers get killed, but the ones that don’t take advantage of the gaping hole in the fence surrounding Terminus. A bit of prison deja vu, no?...
