Kathleen Kennedy reported back in 2012 that a live action adaptation of Roald Dahl's The BFG was being worked on and nearly ready to shoot, and seemingly the main hurdle to the production starting was the lack of a director. Well, they've found one. Quite a good one too: Steven Spielberg has confirmed that it will be his next big project with production expected to begin in early 2015. This gives him the flexibility of tackling a smaller project in the meantime should he fancy it.

The plot of the book is one many of you will be familiar with, with the BFG a giant who teams up with a girl called Sophie to stop far nastier giants. And what's interesting here is that the notoriously picky Roald Dahl estate - itself an extension, of course, of the ethos of the notoriously picky Roald Dahl - has allowed a further feature to be made (an animated version had previously been produced)....
