Scots actor James McAvoy on latest X-Men film and why he reckons he's got four years left before he'll need to call in stunt double The 34-year-old Scot, who became an unlikely action hero in 2008, is back flexing his muscles as Professor Charles Xavier for the second X-Men prequel, Days of Future Past.

HE became an action hero quite late in his career and now James McAvoy reckons hes only got four years before he gets a stunt double.

The 34-year old Scot began acting in character-driven films such as Wimbledon, The Last King of Scotland and Atonement.

But in 2008 he became an unlikely action man alongside Angelina Jolie in Wanted and has since flexed his muscles in 2011s big budget X-Men: First Class and gritty dramas Welcome to the Punch, Trance and Filth.

This year hes back as Professor Charles Xavier for the second X-Men prequel, Days of Future Past, and is once again in the thick of the action.

But he revealed: Im getting older. I reckon Ive only got four or five more years of doing that kind of s*** before its like, Whoa! Well be getting the stunt double in here.

While Liam Neeson is still seen as an action hero at 61 and Sylvester Stallone, at 67, is bringing former action men out of retirement for his Expendables franchise, it seems James is a bit accident prone.

During a scene in a plane for Days of Future Past he ended up hurting himself. He said: I cracked my knee quite badly on the third take but that was just my own fault.

The plane wasnt even throwing me around. I just tripped over a camera. Im going to be limping for a week.

The first time they did it, they said, Do you want to rehearse? I said, No, lets just do it and see where it throws me.

Im quite bendy, quite bouncy. I usually land well.

James isnt just hurting himself. His co-star Nicholas Hoult who plays Dr Hank McCoy, the scientist who turns into the Beast has told interviewers the Scot hit him in the nether regions.

Its turned into gooliesgate.

Speaking for the first time about the incident, James holds his hands up and admits its true.

The pair were shooting a scene in the new X-Men movie, which is out in May, and they were meant to be flinching as things were blowing up around them. James laughed: Im glad he finally got that out. It was a total accident....
