Speaking exclusively to Metro he said: ‘If Simon Cowell’s there tonight I’d love to share a smooch with him.

‘I am just pleased that I was able to decide on my own terms that I would do it one more time and that would be it,’ the 35-year-old added.

‘If you can say “I will do this one and that’s my last” there’s a real luxury in that, rather than me opening a newspaper in three years’ time and reading that someone else is doing it. I would feel quite disheartened.’

Serving up the secrets to tonight’s show the actor, also let slip ‘I’ve seen Pharrell is playing with Nile Rodgers, they are doing a medley of songs, which I will be gobsmacked if it isn’t amazing. There’s some really good collaborations between some people.
