 | The follow up to the surprise hit of '96. It follows Sydeny to an Ohio college where she is still haunted by what happened to her in the first film. As time goes by she finds that their is another killer who is out on the lose trying to kill the survivors of the orignal film.
This film play a pardy on horror sequel movies. With some well timed humor, Trivia answers and plot twists. This film is quite the entertaining film that brought the first film to its hieghts. |

| The original Scream, while not brilliant, did a good job of pointing out the humorous stupidity in many "slasher movies" and still remained scary. It wasn't on the same level as Seven or the Ring in terms of horror, but it was a fun popcorn movie, because it knew it was a popcorn movie and its wink-wink nature.
Scream 2 had quite a bit to live up to, and it did a very good job at doing so. It instantly is as wink-wink as the first one as its first scene features people seeing the movie "STAB," which is based on Gail Weathers's book about the killings in the first Scream movie. The movie within a movie aspect is entertaining, and yet again shows that these people aren't taking SCREAM or the horror genre seriously. Just as you are laughing at the near parody of Drew Barrymore's legendary and very scary scene, you are scared by another Ghostface terrorizing people.
This carries on throughout the movie. It is basically about another killer who is attempting to make a real life sequel to STAB. All of the characters that lived through the first one are trying to figure out who the Ghostface is before they get murdered. Not the most complex plot, but it does give more backstory and doesn't seem as contrived while you are watching it.
Courteney Cox yet again does a terrific job making you forget about Monica Gellar (at least until there is a joking reference to FRIENDS). David Arquette's character is changed quite a bit from the original, and in a way that does not completely wow me. Neve Campbell seems to be improving somewhat, but she certainly isn't going to be my generation's Meryl Streep. This is even made fun of in the fact that Tori Spelling, an even worse actress, plays Sydney in STAB. Jamie Kennedy has a humorous role as the dorky video clerk and provides some of the most astute observations about horror movies. The guy who plays Cotton (I hate that I cannot remember his name) delivers a solid performance.
As far as new character go, Laurie Metcalf (who many reviewers have slammed) does a good job as the Gail-worshipping reporter. Heather Grahm has a funny cameo as "Casey" in STAB, as does Luke Wilson. I even applaud Spelling for laughing at herself. Sarah Michelle Gellar does a good job with a too-small role. Jada Pinkett-Smith and her boyfriend in the movie have a funny scene at the premiere of STAB (the first scene), and their best lines are their analysis of how African Americans are portrayed in scary movies. However, Jada overdoes her wailing in an otherwise scary death sequence so much that I actually had to fight back laughter. The other actors that I didn't mention are average.
The real stars here are Wes Craven and the rest of the people behind the scenes who brought us an entertaining horror movie. Does the SCREAM Trilogy lift cinema to a new level and include stupendous acting? No, but it doesn't try to in the best sense possible. It made horror movies fun again and helped bring them back to prominence.
By the way, I hate sequels (Read my review of the Poltergeist sequels)usually, and I even liked this.

| The movie "Scream 2" is basically just like "Scream". Neither movie is very effective because when the killers' identities are revealed, the movie becomes ineffective as a horror film.
The killers lack any kind of credibility and are completely unconvincing in their roles. This movie also lacks originality, and in all honesty, really is not much different than the first. In fact, the twist at the ending regarding the first killer's mother is exceptionally bogus and relegates this movie to the loser Hall Of Fame for horror movies.

| THAT WAS ENOUGH. I was actually expecting something out of this movie. I guess I was wrong. The final identity of the killer wasn't very surprising at all because it's not noticed that they are revealed somewhere in the middle of the film. I'm glad some of the people who died, died. {Many of them deserved it anyway}. I can't remember the plot, but it wasn't all that great to me. A few scenes were alright, but overall, this just does not make my day. |
