Background:
American comedic actor Nate Torrence initially gained national fame
through his roles in a number of television advertisements, including
for the Capital One, Volkswagen and Golden Grahams, to name a few. He
has had regular roles on the television shows “Studio 60 on the
Sunset Strip” (2006-2007) and “Mr. Sunshine” (2011)
and has guest starred in many TV shows, including “CSI: Crime
Scene Investigation,” “Malcolm in the Middle” and
“Ghost Whisperer.” His film credits include “Suits on
the Loose” (2005), “Get Smart” (2008), “She's
Out of My League” (2010) and “The Big Year”
(2011). Torrence more recently provides the voice of Chuck on the
animated show “Motorcity” (Disney XD, 2012-?).

Childhood and Family:
Nate Torrence was born Nathan Andrew Torrence on December 1, 1977, in
Canton, Ohio. He graduated from Hiland High School in Berlin, Ohio. He
briefly attended Kent State University in Kent, Ohio before relocating
to Chicago and studying at the Players Workshop of the Second City.
After finding out that he was too young to legally enter the majority
of improv clubs in Chicago, he returned back to Ohio and founded his
own comedy troupe, Corn, Beef and Cabbage, which toured local coffee
houses and theatres. He later studied improv at Second City in
Cleveland and in Los Angeles, and The Groundlings and Comedy Sportz in
Los Angeles. Nate has a brother named Jay, who also performed with him
at Corn, Beef and Cabbage. Nate was a trampoline gymnast when he was
younger and won national competitions for age group
12-14.
Nate is married to Christie Mullet. They have one child together.

Career:
Nate Torrence made his early series television appearance as a guest
star in “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and “The
Mullets,” playing Daniel O'Hannissey and Tud, respectively (both
2003). He continued to have one episode stint in many other television
series such as “Malcolm in the Middle” (2004, as Private
Turner), “Quintuplets” (2004, as Pizza Guy), “House
M.D.” (2004), “Girlfriends” (2005), “Las
Vegas” (2005), “Ghost Whisperer” (2005), “One
on One” (2005-2006) and “How I Met Your Mother”
(2006).
Torrence made his feature film debut in “Little Athens”
(2005), a comedy/drama directed and co-written by Tom Zuber and
starring John Patrick Amedori, Shawn Hatosy and Michelle Horn. There he
appeared as a card player. It was followed by a bigger part as elder
Lewis in the comedy film “Suits on the Loose” (2005),
written and helmed by Rodney Henson. He also appeared in two short
films, “Marksman” and “Driftwood” (both 2007).
Torrence landed the secondary role of a rookie member named Dylan
Killington on the Aaron Sorkin created dramedy television show
“Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” which ran on NBC from
September 18, 2006 to June 28, 2007. Co-stars in the series included
Matthew Perry, Amanda Peet, Bradley Whitford, Steven Weber, D. L.
Hughley, Sarah Paulson, Nate Corddry and Timothy Busfield.
After a guest spot in “Reno 911!,” where he played crazy
shirtless boxing man in the episode “Baghdad 911” (2008),
Torrence was cast in the supporting role of Lloyd, a lab assistant, on
the Peter Segal big screen version of Mel Brooks and Buck Henry's 1960s
spy parody television series, “Get Smart” (2008), starring
Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart and Anne Hathaway as Agent 99. The film
was a commercial success despite a mixed reception from critics. The
actor also reprised his role on a video spin-off, “Get
Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control” (2008). The same year,
Torrence also portrayed Craig in “My Best Friend's Girl,”a
romantic comedy film starring Dane Cook and Kate Hudson and directed by
Howard Deuth, and co-starred with Dreama Walker, Matthew Perry and
Kiele Sanchez in the made for television film “The End of
Steve” (Showtime).
In 2010, Torrence played airline reservations agent Devon in the
romantic comedy film “She's Out of My League,” starring Jay
Baruchel and Alice Eve. The film, which is director Jim Field
Smith's feature debut, grossed nearly $50
million worldwide against a budget of $20 million. In the following
year, he appeared with Steve Martin, Jack Black, Owen Wilson, Rosamund
Pike, JoBeth Williams and Rashida Jones in the comedy film “The
Big Year,” by David Frankel. 2011 also saw Torrence return to
series television as a regular on the ABC mid-season replacement sitcom
“Mr. Sunshine” (February-April), which was co-created by
Matthew Perry, who also starred in the series. He portrayed Roman
Cohen, the lovable but weird son of Crystal (played by Allison
Janney).
In 2012, Torrence starred as the protagonist Chuck, Mike's best friend
and computer expert for the Burners, on the animated television series
“Motorcity,” which premiered on April 30, 2012 on Disney
XD. He also guest starred in “Are You There, Chelsea?”
(2012, as Captain Steve) and “Happy Endings” (2012, as
Slacker Buddy).
Torrence has completed filming the short “We Think Nate Torrence
Is Dead” (2012), which he wrote, directed and starred in.
Torrence has also been famous for his work in television commercials.
He is perhaps well remembered for his role as a credit card customer
service representative with David Spade, in the Capital One
“What's In Your Wallet” advertising campaign” and as
the shrieking Jetta test driver in a Volkswagen campaign, from which he
received a 2005 AICP award for Best Talent/Performance in a Commercial.
Torrence has also appeared in several other commercials, like for
Cingular Wireless, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Golden Grahams, Pringles,
H-E-B, and NFL.com.
Today, Torrence remains active performing sketch/improve shows in area
theaters, including The Second City Studio Theater in LA.
