Nancy Lee Grahn is a two time Daytime Emmy Award winning American actress. She is best known for portraying Julia Wainwright on “Santa Barbara” (1985-1993) and Alexis Davis on “General Hospital” (1996-?), with the latter role also brought her three Soap Opera Digest Awards.

Childhood and Family:

Daughter of choreographers, Nancy Lee Grahn was born on April 28, 1958, in Skokie, Illinois. Her parents were both involved with their local community theater in Skokie. Nancy had her first taste of acting in a community production of “Oklahoma!”, where she appeared as a pony, and continued on performing on stage throughout school and college days. She attended Niles North High School and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She studied acting with prominent drama teachers Sandy Meisner and Bill Epsen in New York City.

Nancy has one sister. She is a single mother to one daughter, Katharine Grace, named after her idol, Katharine Hepburn.

Santa Barbara

Career:

Nancy Lee Grahn received her start on the musical stage in “Guys and Dolls” at the Goodman Rep Theater during 1973–74 season. After moving to NYC, she appeared in productions of “A Midsummer Night's Dream” and “Barefoot in the Park.” She went on to perform in many plays, including “Father's Day” and “Two for the Seesaw.”

Grahn made her television debut in the ABC daytime soap “One Life to Live,” where she portrayed Beverly Wilkes, the secretary of Marco Dane, from 1980 to 1982. Her big break arrived when she was cast as Julia Wainwright on the NBC soap “Santa Barbara,” a role she played from May 6, 1985 to then show's demise on January 15, 1993. The role brought her a 1989 Daytime Emmy in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, which she shared with Debbi Morgan for “All My Children,” as well as Soap Opera Digest nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress, Hottest Female Star, and Outstanding Super Couple: Daytime, sharing with Gordon Thomson.

Grahn also appeared on television series like “Little House on the Prairie” (1980), “The Incredible Hulk” (1982), “Magnum, P.I.” (1982), “Quincy M.E.” (1982), “The Phoenix” (1982), “Simon & Simon” (1982), “Knight Rider” (1982), “Murder, She Wrote” (1985, 1986) and “Blacke's Magic” (1986). She added her acting credits with roles on s string of television movies such as “Obsessed with a Married Woman” (1985), “Kids Don't Tell” (1985), “Streets of Justice” (1985), “The Girl Who Came Between Them” (1990) and “Perry Mason: The Case of the Glass Coffin” (1991).      

After “Santa Barbara” left the airwaves, Grahn portrayed Det. Towers on the prime time soap opera  “Models Inc”. (1994) and Connie Dahlgren on several episodes of the ABC legal drama series “Murder One” (1995-1996). She made guest appearances on the TV series “Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten” (1993), “Babylon 5” (1994), “Renegade” (1995) and “Diagnosis Murder” (1996). She also
starred alongside Daniel Cerny, Ron Melendez and Jim Metzler on “Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest” (1995), the third film of the “Children of the Corn” series.  

Grahn enjoyed another big success with her role of Alexis Davis, another self-willed lawyer, on the popular daytime medical drama series “General Hospital.” She originated the role on September 28, 1996. She was nominated for several additional Daytime Emmys, winning in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category in 2012. She also won Soap Opera Digest: for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2000, 2001 and 2003 for her work

Grahn had a recurring role as Denise Fielding in “Melrose Place” in 1997 and as Principal Russell on “ 7th Heaven” from 1997 to 1999. She also played the role of Alexis Davis on “Port Charles” from 1997 to 2003. In 2013, she guest starred as Samantha Voss in an episode of “Castle” called “Significant Others.”
