 | watching this classic once more as an adult brings with it an entire new understanding of the deep values on which this cartoon is based. Young children do however find it a little too sad for them, especially the part where the mother fox dies. |

 | The story starts to take place where a young mama vixen attempts to save her baby fox. Shje eventually dumps the baby at a fencepost near a farmhouse and she attempts to distract the hunters. But sadly, she is shot. The baby fox is soon found by Widow Tweed who names him Tod, thanks to Big Mama the owl, Binky the sparrow, and Boomer the woodpecker. At the same time, a hunter brings home a young pup named Copper who attempts to use his cuteness to his advantage against the hunter's dog: Chief.
We now move to where Tod becomes a feisty 10-year old fox and Copper becomes a curious 10-year old pup. Fate somehow gets these two together. But fate still had other suprises in store. The Hunter who is now rumored to be Amos Slade ties Copper to his barrel dog house. Tod begins to play with Copper only to have to race for his life agaisnt Chief. The crafty fox soon outwits Cheif but not without Tod being locked indoors. Eventually, Copper is forced to go on a hunting trip and Tod doesn't see his best friend for a long time. Big Mama comes and attempts to explain to Tod that Dogs eat Foxes but Tod refuses to believe it. However, he has his second thought when he sees Amos Slade's closet of animal skins.
Once again we move to the final chapter where Copper becomes a vicious 16-year old hound dog and Tod becomes a handsome 16-year old Fox. This when things take turns for the worse. Toid attempts to make-up with Copper but has his heart-broken in half when he hears these words. "Tod...Those days are over, I'm a huntin' dog now." Of course, it isn't long before Tod finds himself in another race agaisnt Cheif and soon he finds himself in trapped. Copper lets him get away but soon, Cheif gets breaks his leg from sharp rose bushes. Copper becomes enraged and yells these words at Tod: "TOD!! IF IT'S THE LAST THING I DO, I'LL GET YOU FOR THIS.." This means that the friendship between them is now over.
Widow Twedd realizes that Tod can't stay with her and is dumped into the wildlife reserve where he spends a horrible night and morning in the fores. But all that changes when he meets an incredibly sexy, very beautiful and compassionate vixen by the name Vixey. Love at first sight. Copper meanwhile seeks revenge on Tod and places traps everywhere. But it isn't until they awake a giant black bear that things finally turn around. Tod and Vixey manage to escape but Copper is being tortured. In an incredibnly amazing bravery, Tod manage to defeat the bear but is severly injured. Amos Slade finds him but Copper sticks up for him. Amos slade slays the fox and both Tod and Copper exchange silent thanks.
Definately the best Disney movie ever! |

 | Never saw this one as a kid but got it for my children and started out watching and thinking it was too full of old cliches and sterotypes. Then began to understand why this story stands up to time. It is about very difficult choices, friendship, loyalty, tribe and ultimately right and wrong. These complicated social issues are handled without being preachy or dogmatic, but making you really think. What an impressive change from the tired princess nonesense. The kids love it, has all the good elements of story telling and keeps them interested, but even my 3 year old talks about the problems each of the characters is facing. It is worth adding to your library and it is a regular favorite choice for my 3 girls. |

 | I viewed this movie when I was 15 years old. I think this movie is very good. The characters in the movie are lovely. But I feel a little sad after I viewed this movie. Tod and Copper are two good friends when they was young, but after they grew up, they almost became enemies because of the old Chief's injure! Fortunately, they seemed to be friends just like they were young. I can remember the pure dialogue when they was young. "Copper, you're my very best friend.""And you're mine, too, Tod.""And we'll always be friends forever, won't we?""Yeah, forever!" This movie is touching but a little sad. However, I love this movie very much! |
