Savannah, Georgia native Michael Moncrief snagged his first film role at age 12 in Robert Redford-directed golf drama film adapted from the 1995 novel by Steven Pressfield, “The Legend of Bagger Vance” (2000; alongside Matt Damon, Will Smith, and Charlize Theron), playing the Young Artist Award-nominated role of the young and mystical caddy Hardy Greaves. He has since never returned to the screen.

In 1987, J. Michael Moncrief, nickname “JM,” was born in Savannah, Georgia. He currently lives with his family in a small town outside of Savannah. During his free time, he enjoys riding roller coasters, going to movies, playing pinball, video games, and putt-putt golf.


The Legend of Bagger Vance

Career:

At the age of 12, Michael Moncrief beat roughly 2,000 other boys for the role of Hardy Greaves in director Robert Redford's golf drama film based on the 1995 novel by Steven Pressfield, “The Legend of Bagger Vance” (2000). In his film debut, Moncrief played the pivotal role of the young and mystical caddy whose unwavering faith in his golf hero Rannulph Junuh (portrayed by Matt Damon) becomes the catalyst for Junuh's return to the golf course. His performance received praise and earned him a Young Artist Award nomination for Best Performance in a Feature Film - Supporting Young Actor. Will Smith and Charlize Theron also co-starred in the film that was a box office bomb despite gaining positive reviews.

Following his debut, Moncrief, as of October 2008, has never been returned acting in films or television.
