SummaryOne of my all-time favorite movies
Content
I remember seeing this movie at the theaters in elementary school and immediately taking a liking to it. This is one of the very few movies that I watch whenever I flip past it while channel-hopping, and I did again last night. Afterwards, I felt compelled today to check out what sort of comments it has received on Amazon. Well, I was completely amazed its multi-star rating is as high as it is!

I agree with the reviewer who said that A Martinez contributed so much to this film. It's true, every scene with "Garcia" made me laugh: from the scene where he was thoroughly repulsed by catching a glimpse of Bob's bare bottom when he lost his towel, to the hilarious scene when Mary Fisher is in the middle of being interviewed by People magazine and he revs up abruptly next to them with YooHoo, Cheez Whiz, & crackers, saying, "Tea time as usual, madam" when she asked him what on earth he was serving them. Then seconds later, he howls at her from the balconey, "YO!!!! Phone call!"

Meryl Streep, on the other hand, stole the show. It was so nice to see her in a laid-back, comedic role, and she remarkably nailed the part of Mary Fisher. It's a silly movie, far from high-brow - but nonetheless exceedingly well acted by all casted. It's one of my all-time favorite movies. I wonder if it's on DVD yet ...

SummaryThe grass isn't always greener...
Content
She-Devil a great dark comedy about revenge. BoB (Ed Begley Jr.) is bored of his blah wife who just can't seem to do anything right...so he decides to have an affair with romance novelist Mary Fisher (Meryl Streep). He leaves suburbia, his kids and wife, so Ruth (Roseanne) decides to show him how bad life can really be. After burning down the house, dumping the kids at the pretty pink palace by the sea and breaking Mary Fisher's mom out of a nursing home, she and a friend start an employment agency to help women in similar situations. By placing the right women in the right jobs, Bob soon learns hell hath no fury like a woman scorned when he ends up with nothing and no one, all because he crossed the wrong woman.

SummaryRevenge Is Sweet
Content
What happens when a dumpy housewife gets dumped for a beautiful romance novelist author? If Roseanne Barr is the housewife, she gets really hacked off and seeks vengeance. She gets really ugly about it too.

The plan for revenge involves several phases. First, she manages to burn down the house. After that, she explains to the kids that they will have to live with their father since they no longer have a house; he is shacked up with the novelist who does NOT know how to handle kids. The next phase involves destroying his business and hers by getting the goods on all their dirty laundry.

Meryl Streep plays the vain, self centered romance author and home-wrecker. She does so deliciously and you find yourself smirking as her life falls to pieces. I have never cared for Rosanne Barr but in this one, I found myself rooting her on.

This is not high art. It is simple minded comedy with a twist of poetic justice. Don't expect too much from it but enjoy it anyway.
