SummaryWar games a real treat
Content
The DVD is a real treat. I especially enjoyed under special features the commentary during the movie. It brought to light much of the thinking of the director and others. I knew the movie very well from VHS but the DVD allowed me to enjoy the movie experience even more.

This movie is a classic in its genre, and a classic in its historical time-frame. Pure fun, pure fantasy.

SummaryDramatic, Funny, and Sexy
Content
Sexy re-make of 1964 thriller Fail-Safe see's Matt Broderick and Ally Sheedy at their adolescent best. (Cool) nerd Broderick hacks into the Pentagon's Master war computer called "Whopper". Laboring under belief that he has found web games, he inadvertently puts into motion a sequence of computer generated events that both American and Soviet leaders fear a first strike. Very pretty Ally Sheedy plays Matt's sexy girlfriend who fears Matt has changed her grades, and she could get into trouble because of his tinkering. Matt's mom is busy doing the June Cleaver thing, and dad is understandably concerned about a fire at the local "prophilactic factory". The second half of the film is predictable and gets a bit boring. And I don't believe teens can call the shots in the midst of such an unthinkable event. A computer science Professor knows how to dismantle the accident, but demands the kids be allowed to do it with less than a modicum of support. This, is unlikely. But it's well made, and sure worth a look.

SummaryGood Clean fun
Content
I love this movie. Get in the Way back Machine and have fun! The computers are near antiques, but the methods would still work today, almost. Mathew Broderick's talent shines, even as a teenager. And when was the last time you could watch a movie with your kids and not be embarrassed? Great family movie, especially those with under 13.

SummaryStill interesting after 20 years.
Content
I originally saw Wargames in the theatre and again on video, but haven't seen it for about 10 years. I watched it again last week and found it's still quite watchable, in spite of some amusingly dated hardware, like that old phone modem where you had to put the phone handset in the modem. Matthew Broderick's first major role as a computer geek is still one of his best parts, in my opinion, and Dabney Coleman is perfect as the man in charge of a Norad mainframe who believes his plans have been sabotaged by the boy. Competent acting by a young Ally Sheedy and the rest of the cast help make the movie work well in spite of a few bits of the script that seem corny and contrived. I'm afraid younger audiences might find it a bit slow for a suspense thriller, but it's nice to know it's re-watchable after waiting 10 years to forget some of the details
