 | Great premise, great story, interesting effects, until.........
they introduce the totally stupid twist with the 'time warped' Will Smith etc. Even for a sci-fi movie it was totally absurd, and the film losses sense and direction for me. |

 | Virtually unrelated to the TV show (so not much of a nostalgia trip), but a decent SF movie on its own. By definition, any movie containing Gary Oldman (the most versatile actor in history) has a lot going for it, but if you have the grown-up-Will-Robinson thing going, why not use Billy Mumy??? He obviously is a talented actor (cf. Babylon 5). Worth watching, and the disc (at a discount) has a fair number of extras.

 | In response to the reviewer who is critical of older Lost n Space fans: I'm one of the "old fogies" who grew up on the original Lost In Space, but I have warm feelings for this remake too. Don't knock the "old fogies" who made the original popular. This version wouldn't have existed without the original. I do agree that this version deserves more credit. It's "new" and yet it doesn't fail to capture the imaginative fun of the original. It's a little too serious in places, but much of it is just imaginative fun just like in the "old days". It's very kid oriented and wildly fantastic. It has plenty of adventure and fun for my kids (and the kid in me) to enjoy. The makers were obviously fans of the original. They didn't abandon the spirt of the original. They didn't abandon the family audience. They did a good job on this.

 | Thier are alot of fans of the original series that complain about this movie.Wake up and check the date!First off it was a good thing that the movie was made the way it was in the series,I don't think a "Brady Bunch" feel was the way to go here. The series was made in a different time for a different audience, but that doesn't mean the movie is bad. This movie was made with very realistic charactors that made a very realistic family with realistic problems. Despite the lack of the "Brady Bunch" factor, the charactors did pull together and work together just like in the series.
Another plus is that with todays techology, the makers of this movie made a more realistic looking movie than the makers of the tv series could evan hope to dream for.So forget the complaints of those old fogies who were disappointed because they wanted to "relive thier youth" through this movie, Lodt in Space of one great Scifi/Action-Adventure movie. |
