Swimming Upstream

Career:

Matt Czuchry became interested in acting after taking a theater class in college. He later studied acting with Belita Moreno, the star of the comedy series “The George Lopez Show.”

Matt was first seen as a guest in an episode of NBC’s cult teen drama/comedy series "Freaks and Geeks" and Fox’s short-lived "Opposite Sex." He also had a recurring role, as Sean McGrail, on the WB drama series "Young Americans." In the show, Matt met his girlfriend of two years, Kate Bosworth.

He began appearing in films in 2002. He played the lead role of a happy-go-lucky, all-American kid who suddenly faces terminal cancer in Robert J. Emery's adaptation of Don Robertson's novel, “Swimming Upstream,” with Kelly Rutherford and Michael Moriarty as his parents. He also co-starred with Piper Perabo, playing the football quarterback, in director Melanie Mayron's teen comedy movie “Slap Her... She's French” (aka “She Gets What She Wants”). About his role in the film, Matt revealed, “I play the football quarterback and Piper Perabo from 'Coyote Ugly' is in it. It's a fun movie. I would say it's a romantic comedy.”

That same year, Matt was cast in Gil Cates Jr.'s modern take on William Shakespeare's romantic comedy play, “A Midsummer Night's Dream,” alongside Corey Pearson, Lauren German and Andrew Keegan. He also played the boyfriend of Scarlett Johansson's character in Ellory Elkayem's horror/comedy film starring David Arquette and Kari Wührer, “Eight Legged Freaks” and was spotted as a guest in an episode of ABC’s legal drama "The Practice" and the WB family drama series "7th Heaven." He also co-starred with David Morse and Andre Braugher, playing Jamie Farrel (2003-2004), on CBS’ crime/drama series "Hack."

During his “Hack” stint, Matt also appeared in the films “Advantage Hart” (2003), a short tennis comedy film by Jeff Seibenick in which he co-starred with then-girlfriend Kate Bosworth, and “Em & Me” (2004), which was directed by L. James Langlois. He also appeared in the pilot episode of UPN’s sci-fi series "Jake 2.0" and in the WB failed revival of the gothic soap opera, “Dark Shadows” (2004).

From 2004 to 2007, Matt portrayed Logan Huntzberger, Rory's (played by Alexis Bledel) boyfriend, on the WB/CW hit drama/comedy series "Gilmore Girls." Matt's work in the series later earned him nominations at the Teen Choice awards in 2005 and 2006.

“This is a great show and to be a part of it is a huge responsibility and they were amazingly supportive of me coming onto the show. That's really an honor to have had them so supportive from the network to the studio to the creators of the show. It's just pretty amazing and I'm so thankful to be on the show.” Matt Czuchry

While working on "Gilmore Girls," Matt starred in Richie Keen's short comedy film “Hooked” (2006), playing an accountant who becomes a one-day celebrity after winning two front-row tickets to the Oscars. He was also spotted as a guest in an episode of Cartoon Network's animated series "Justice League" and the CW critically acclaimed teen drama series starring Kristen Bell, "Veronica Mars."

Recently, Matt was cast in the TV series pilot “Gravity,” alongside Ryan Merriman, for the 2007/2008 season, but it wasn't picked up by CW.

“I'd love to be an animated character on 'South Park.' I want to be a voice on 'South Park.' That show is genius! I love that sensibility. I also love 'Six Feet Under.' Those are two shows that I really love the story and the characters. Those are two shows that I love and I'd love to be on them.” Matt Czuchry
