 | "My Life Without Me" is about a young woman (Sarah Polley) who is told by the doctor that she has only weeks to live. Never was the bad news taken with such poise yet entirely believable. The film is suprisingly not depressing, as it is about life - that life can dance in the face of death. This tiny production is much the better for its simple setting (trailer park, school, hospital)& its lack of polish & glitz. Relationships are maybe a bit simplified & the story naive, however this is absolutely a worthwhile work. |

 | I purchased this movie on DVD with great expectations, after someone whose opinion I respect recommended it. After suffering through it, I came to realize it has to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen -- no, wait, it IS THE worst movie I have ever seen. All characters are two-dimensional, the story stinks, it is badly acted, directed, filmed, etc. etc. For starters, the film has many mistakes worth noting, the worst of which is the fact that siamese twins CANNOT be of different sex as they come from the same egg. If you are going to direct a movie, you better first get your facts straight, madame director. The main character says she was born in a certain month, and later she mentions her astrological sign which doesn't coincide with her month of birth (but, anyway, who cares?). Debbie Harry's role is irrelevant and was painful to watch her all washed-up. But the main faults go to the main actress and the director. Among the worst ever filmed. Lastly, the dying girl is allegedly so in love with her husband (which is the only one redeemable here) and, still, once she knows she has 2 months to live, she embarks into trying to bed another man; he meets one withing days and she also falls in love with him. Give me a break! Did the slut in her emerge once she knew she was dying? I gave this film 1 star only because ZERO stars was not an option. Save yourself some money by not renting this piece of trash (much less buying it) and find another worthy film for your entertainment. What a waste of film. |

 | A movie I was reluctant to rent, but for some reason thought... why the hell not. I was glad I did.
What would I do if I found out that my life was over even before I had begun to live? This is the question that comes to the front of my mind after watching "My Life Without Me". It makes us aware that we walk a fine line between living and the devastating routine of life. It also makes you think twice about what's really important in life - any movie that can do that is worth seeing. This movie being perhaps one of the best films I have seen in a while. A film of tragedy that didn't dwell on the process of dying, but on the process of preparing the people you love to live on without you. It was done so well that I relaxed and found myself appreciating my own life even more. The visuals at the end of the film depicting ones life fluidly continuing on without you as if it were somewhat normal are just... it's something that can't be expressed with words. Heartbreaking, to say the least. You'll need kleenex, I did. |

 | It kept my attention and I enjoyed it. But I hated the scientific errors, especially this one: Siamese twins are ALWAYS the same sex. The story told about them states that one is a boy and one is a girl. That is medically impossible. Movies should do their research on stuff like that. |

 | I had a lot of problems with this film. About 14 minutes into the movie it is discovered that the main character is dying from cancer. She doesn't take any steps to get a second opinion or discuss any kind of treatment to prolong her life. She just accepts the news and goes on with her life. She keeps it a secret from everyonem which I find it hard to understand, but I actually know of someone who did something similar, only telling her husband. So the main character decides to tie up her life as much as she can. One thing that I found the most hard to understand is why she decides to have a man fall in love with her is important. By all accounts, just because her husband was her first doesn't mean he doesn't love her. By all accounts he is a loving husband and father. He reads stories to his children, works to support his family, and hugs his wife affectionately. Another thing I didn't get is that she just seems so painfree to have a rapid moving cancer. The movie gets slow, like when she is seen in the car making the recordings for her children to listen to. There was so much I didn't get about this film but the acting was very good despite the things about the story that annoyed me. |
