A boyishly handsome brown-haired player, Mark Famiglietti got his start in local theater productions in his hometown of Clinton, Connecticut and hit the big time with a role as a Greenwich-bred prep schooler getting a peek at the other side of the tracks in "Young Americans" (2000- ), a teen-aimed drama on The WB. After a successful stint in high school theater and one semester at New York University, the young actor put his education on hold to pursue an acting career in Los Angeles.
Famiglietti was featured on the high school-set comedy series "Hang Time" from 1998 to 1999, playing school heartthrob Nick Hammer in this popular entry in the NBC Saturday morning line-up. A guest role on the sitcom "Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane" (The WB,1999) and a supporting part as a friendly bartender in the ABC TV-movie "A Tale of Two Bunnies" (2000) followed, In 2000, Famiglietti took on the character of Scout Calhoun on "Young Americans". He added charm to his turn as a privileged senator's son who falls for a blue collar girl (Kate Bosworth) in the small Massachusetts town where he attends Rawley Academy, an elite prep school. Scout, who also befriended his townie roommate Will (Rodney Scott) dealt with problems from other locals wary of the rich boys of Rawley, and was hit with the blow that his new girlfriend may be his half-sister. Famiglietti had a boy-next-door appeal that added a grounded quality to Scout, making the wealthy prepster a far more relatable character than he seemed on paper and marking "Young Americans" as a surprisingly thoughtful take on class issues.
