 | The In Crowd starts out as a typical teen film, populated by good looking actors, whose charaters seem like they were plugged into the film's setting from other movies of this type. And then something interesting happened along the way, I ended up having fun watching the movie anyway, much more than I was expecting to or should have.
When Adrien Williams (Lori Heuring) gets a summer job at a country club in New England, she soon finds herself surrounded by rich, beautiful upper-crust college students, and hardly knows what to do. She is befriended by Brittany Foster (Susan Ward) and falls in love with Brittany's tennis pro boyfriend, Matt Curtis (Matthew Settle). But soon after she arrives, Adrien learns that everyone among the high-class clique has secrets to protect.
Written by Caleb Carr and directed by Mary Lambert, the film takes you to some comicly dark places. Anyone who ever saw the movie Gossip should note that while there are certain thematic similarities The In Crowd is much more suspenseful and fun. Lambert does a fine job showcasing the web of lies and manipulation that permeate throughout the movie. She proves that preverse can be good if done right. The cast is very watchable here and does have the feel of each character down to a tee. Think 90210 or Dawson's Creek but a lot more fun.
The fact that the film barely registered at the box Office didn't stop the studio from loading on the extras for the DVD. The screen-specific audio commentary with actors Susan Ward and Lori Heuring, was like the film, somewhat of a suprise. But it Ward and Heuring seem to be having a great time. There is plenty of humor, as well as quite a bit of detail about what went on behind the scenes. I only wish Lambert could have been there too. The usual hum drum gallery of cast bios and film highlights is perked up using short interview clips accessible from each bio. The full frame video clips are a few minutes in length and usually each interviewee focuses on his or her character, their motivations and how much fun it was to play them. There are three deleted scenes, including another ending Like most deleted scenes these add a bit of depth to the characters, but their deletion probably is a good thing. The Publicity Gallery includes the standard theatrical trailer and teaser, as well as four full frame TV spots. There is also a still gallery with publicity stills from the movie. Lastly, there are a number of DVD-ROM features, including additional behind-the-scenes footage with some promotional EPK material, screensaver and wallpaper downloads, and production notes
Taken as a breezy teen thriller, with a spritz of dark comedy, The In Crowd is best enjoyed by going in with the right frame of mind and having fun |

 | Susan Ward, coming out of daytime and primetime soaps on TV, gave movie acting a try with this rather lame picture from AOL Films. Director Mary Lambert tries and fails to give us a Basic Instinct story with zero script and while this was a studio pictures, it looks like Warners gave them a fairly low budget to work with. As the lack of film sets show. If you like Susan Ward, then give this a movie a try, if you want to hope that she gets better film roles in the future, DON"T FIND IT HERE. |

 | Quite obviously this movie didn't get any Oscars, but then again if you're watching this kind of movie, you're not expecting Oscar material.
The plot was slightly above par, the acting- not so much. But this movie was FUN. Personally, I think it should have been in theaters longer, it's no worse then any other teen horror movie that was out at that time (Remember the travesty that was "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer"?) and I believe it could have done reasonably well.
So, if you're looking for a fun movie and not an Oscar Winner, you can't go wrong here. Also, the commentary is hysterical; I'd but the DVD just for that.

 | while i was watching this movie i thought to myself, "am i going to die? have i gone to horrible movie hell?" you see i was trapped in a theater. it's like being tortured by some horrible nightmare but you can't leave cause B actors are pretending they can act just because they're fat. the in crowd gives you that feeling like when it's grossly bright outside and it's a sunday afternoon and you're in a car and you've been sitting for 6 hours and you feel sweaty and there'a a football game playing on the am radio and you want to escape. in conclusion, this movie turns me into melting snow. but i suppose there are worse movies-- (see my review on gummo). |

 | To tell the absolute truth, I expected much more from this teen movie. I like those teen slasher movies like SCREAM and I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, but this one was too weird and bizarre for my tastes. It was very well photographed and sometimes well directed, but the script and actors are very lame and really don't deliver anything special. It's the story of a former mental patient, Adrien, who is sent to work at a hip country club. She is soon involved in a wicked friendship with the sexy Brittany, who sees the image of someone else in Adrien, and therefore begins to act as her loyal companion. Through investigation and patience, Adrien finds that Brittany is nothing but an evil murderress. Like I said, the weak script and lack of talent in the actors destroy this would-be-good thriller. It's often suspenseful and sometimes scary, but usually it's quite boring and overly sexual to boot. |
